Hi, I'm not sure if this came to right place, but here it is anyway! I did today hdd-cooler for one disc. Dunno what to say so lets go on with pics.

Here's heatsink I used. HDD sawn in pics died by natural causes ;) (It's 800M)

Now cut heatsink to two pieces, one for both sides, ofcourse. I did by cutting sink halfway by handsaw and then bended it.

Made this to show myself where should HDD sit. Then I marked holeplaces and drilled three holes to both sinks.

Kinkyest part of mod was measuring right lenght for M5-bars. Right lenght with my sinks was about 20cm. I suggest to first cut a bit too long, that can be cutted again later...

All parts we need. Then assembling.

Doesn't look bad at all IMHO.Those things between sink and bolt made fastening easier 'cause bolt didn't drop between sink's layers (I'm really sorry my bad english :hehe: )

Bottom of whole thing. I taped those to reject shorties on HDD's board.

Cooler sitting on my PSU with war... err.. hmm.. schoolthing-HDD in it ;)

I hope someone found something good in this mod. Atleast it's better than no sink at all.

That's all for now, next time I'll use thinner sinks and maybe add some rubber to kill resonances.

nice cooler, looks a little wide for a 5 1/4 bay, but above your PSU, with a fan in that position, it looks like it would cool it good!

I noticed that wideproblem too late :D Next version'll fit nicer..

And as I said (atleast ment to say) It'll have capacity for two or three HDD's.

I'm planning to totally remod my case. Top of it will only include HDD's and fancontroller... And roof'll have large window, so I'll really think allso how cooler looks ;)

Off topic// nice psu  but you rearly need to tidy the wires up...

ontopic// good mod how much has it reduced temps by?

(use HD Tune to mesure hard disk temps if you don't already have a program to do that)

Thanks, I like that PSU allso ;) I'll tidy wires when I'll mod that case and get green stuff from coolputer.fi :)

And dunno about temps, HD has been out of case etc. So Dont really know where should I compare temps.

And to all: Now It has Maxtor 160GB on it and still no some
I'll measure and check temps sometime.

Surfacetemps were about 25-27c. Heatsink were 25-26c

Hottest point were an IC, 40c.

I measured these by digital tempmeter (has been +/-1c when checking with other sensors/tempmeters)

Should still measure surfacetemperatures without heatsink but I think that's too booring for me  Lets say it lowers temps by 5c atleast.

And oh. Roomtemperature during measurement were 19c.

I made HDD-cooler in much easier way. took cd-rack or what ever it is where cd-rom is screwed to. cut it into two pieces screwed 2 hdd-s between and put a 12x12cm fan in front of them. temp 42->35 :thumb:

If that question about the "aluminum sticks" is for me, I tell you that I've ripped them off from an old beach chair, they were the arm rests. :D
It's just a "|_|" shaped piece of aluminum.

I've mounted it on the mobo tray bebause it's at the bottom of the case, were it's supposed to be the coolest spot, and also because it's very near my front intake, so it will always have fresh air. ;)
