I figure I'll test it as is, and if it isn't cooling to the level I want, I'll make a new one. I'm not going for any over clock records, I just want my machine to run silently.

Anyway, I bought the copper block at onlinemetals.com

Hehe. Maybe at the end of the project I'll do a blooper real, so you can see all the attempts that didn't work before I finally got the one that did.

Great work. Just shows that the more you do things the mover you learn. Reason is a wonderful thing.

    Update June 16

Thanks for all the encouragment everyone.

Small update today -- almost finished with the chipset waterblock. Here are a few pics with milling finished, lots of filing, and a bit of 100 grit sanding done.

Fairly close to the design, huh? Eat your heart out, G69T ! :D

I would have drilled the holes for the fastening screws today, but wouldn't you know I've misplaced my small drill bits. :miffed:

Next steps: build cover and solder the two pieces together.

Yeah, I'll do that after I've soldered the top and base together. Definitely want to get it nice and shiny.

I've got to give you a :thumb: . That takes a lot of patience to do mill work on a drill press.

    Keep up the good work.

    Update June 21

I think I'm finished with the chipset waterblock!! :thumb:

    Tinning the base:

    And the cover:

After lots of heat and pressure:

    A view from the top:

After removing the excess from the cover plate:

Looks like the seam is nice and tight between the cover and base:

    Another view, post filing:

Lots of sanding and some Dremel buffing:

Starting to look like something real:

Wow I remember seeing this thread looong time ago. If there would be no pictures of your work in progress, just the first attempt on cpu block and the finished product, I would not believe that it is the same piece of copper. Great job!
