I may have £1500 to spend on a PC preferably self built, if anyone can spare the time to put together an Intel and AMD tower. No peripherals needed. I will be doing my own research but it would be great to have other opinions. It will be mainly a gaming rig more than anything else.
I don't know the price of these parts in the U.K... but it should give you a start. I assume that you want a second computer for someone else, as you have a fine one in your signature. -> Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 Lowprofile 8GB -> Corsair Obsidian Series 650D / Fractal Design R4 -> Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H (UD4 version is coming soon, it's already been announced) -> Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core -> Seasonic X660/X750 Gold or Corsair AX650/750 -> OCZ Vertex 4 256GB or Samsung 830 256GB or Corsair Neutron GTX 256GB, or the same in 128GB offerings, all depending on your budget and needs. -> Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB -> ASUS DRW-24B1ST 24X SATA DVD Writer -> ASUS Xonar DX -> GeForce GTX 660Ti or GeForce GTX 670.
What goodbytes has said looks good, but if it were me I would probably get a slightly cheaper psu, such as the corsair hx650, which is £40 cheaper but still more than good enough.
What the computer I suggested is missing, is a CPU heatsink replacement. I mean if you are going to get a K unlocked series processors, you are going to OC. Something to look into.
Asus Maximus V Formula i5-3570K Corsair H100i Cooler Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 Lowprofile 8GB EVGA GTX 670 2GB cheesecake Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB or Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB Samsung 830 256 GB Seasonic X-660 Silverstone SST-FT02B USB 3.0
If the RAM is too pricey, you can get the G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 Sniper SE as an alternative. G.Skill is equally as good as Corsair.
Thanks guys will have a look at these suggestions later. But I notice a few referrals to price as in RAM to pricey , I will have £1500 to spend the RAM is little over £30 and why would I need a cheaper PSU. The guys got the cash so I might as well spend it., though I am not going to spend it just for the sake of it but I do want a very good gaming PC to be the result. Any AMD suggestions by the way? Just mobo/CPU/RAM will do, the rest of the components are pretty straightforward.
You just said it yourself: We want you to get the best for your money. Small savings add up in the end. AMD chips mostly compete with Core i3 in performance, so they're not what you are after.
I wouldn't suggest AMD for a gaming PC unless you're tighter for money. Speaking of money, for that price I would suggest LGA2011: i7 3930K - £449.99 AMD 7970 - £311.99 (I picked gigabyte, it's only personal preferance) Asus Rampage IV Formula - £278.99 Corsair H100i - £92.99 Cooler Master CM-690-II Advanced USB3 - 84.98 Samsung 830 128gb - £81.98 OCZ ZT 650W - £69.98 Seagate Barracuda 1TB - £59.99 G-Skill Ares 8GB 1600MHz - £39.95
I would advice against that. It's literally three times the price for very little real world performance improvement. Two extra cores maybe, but it's not worth the price. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/701?vs=552
Please note that RAM fluctuate in price all the time, you always gave specials. I pick what was good in price on my side (in Canada). But the idea of to get at least some 1600MHz 4 or preferably 8GB of RAM, of a brand name you trust.
What resolution monitor will it be powering? If it's 2560x1440/1600 I'd go for a 3570k with 2 x GTX670 or 2 x HD 7970. LGA 2011 won't give you any benefit in games but will cost you a shed load more.
