It's come the time of year where I upgrade my gaming PC and I'm looking at changing my graphics card.

I currently have an ATI 4870 running at 1680x1050 and I've got about £200 to spend.

So far, I've been looking at the ATI 5870. I know it's a generation behind now, but it's still quicker than everything else in the £200 price bracket, such as the 6870.

Is the GTX 560 likely to be any faster than the 5870 as I believe that will be around £200 too?

    Any opinions? :)

There's this if you can push the budget slightly:

I think those are about the same speed as the 5870 in most games, however the minimum frame rate is usually better meaning you get a 'smoother' gaming experience. Otherwise if you're not in a rush you could wait to see what the GTX 560 offers as you mention, might well be a bit faster than the 6950/5870.

I've heard about the flashing of a 6950 to a 6970, but surely it must be dependant on the card you buy at the time, like unlocking the fourth core on a Athlon X3 etc.

I think I'll wait to see what the 560 is like, although I can't see it being any quicker than a 5870.

This person running a 1680*1050 moniter, the 6950 2gb vram won't be useful. If you look at those res game benchmarks the 5870 is better than it and the 460 only about 10% worse.

If you want an upgrade now then get a 5870, if you can wait a month then the 560 should be about 20-30% quicker than the 460 based on the jump between the 470/80 and 570/80.
