I'm looking to build a cheap gaming pc for my brother who wants to play games like Minecraft, Day Z, Black Ops 2, Battlefield 3, and Guild Wars 2. He'll be using a 22" monitor at 1680x1050 resolution, so with that in mind, I put together this shopping list.

Will the parts I've picked out be capable of playing those games at medium to high settings at 1680x1050?

That is near enough the best you can get for £400, you should look at this thread for any other ideas.

A very good list for under £400. Any of those games would run a good mix of Med-high settings at that resolution.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Will a 7850 be ok to put in this build, or should I stay with the 7770?

Funny thing is, I have that memory lying here unused after upgrading to 16gb on my pc, but the MSI motherboard only supports DDR3-1066/1333.

the 7850 is an awesome bit of kit - if you can stretch to it then go for it

    edit:

just stick the ram you have in - if it doesn't run at 1600 then it`ll downclock to 1333 anyway :D

Fantastic. I can use that £30 I would have spent on memory towards the 7850. :)

The 7850 is a must have in a budget build, its twice the card the HD7770 is.

^^ what MrB said , especially for BF3 , which is pretty much all GFX performance.

Tanks again for the tips. Hopefully with the 7850 now in the build it should last a bit longer before it needs updating with an i5. :p
