My friend is looking for a new pc for playing world of Warcraft. His budget is £450. I looked on pc specialist and found this one that seems pretty good for £440

    i3 2120 3.3ghz
    Asus p8h61 -mx
    4gb DDR3 1333ghz
    1gb 560gtx
    250gb
    350w psu (generic I assume)
    No os (none needed)

In only checked pc specialist as I can't think of any others that do good prebuilt systems and self building is not an option.

Any ideas if this will max wow?

That will cope with WoW. How well, depends on monitor resolution. I wouldn't, perhaps, be hugely enthuastic about a 350W, un-named PSU. All, obviously, a bit limited, but, for the price, pretty reasonable.

Forgot about resolution. He plays at 1280x1024.

I would have gone for a branded psu but that will probably push the cost up significantly.

Id really try to get a branded (preferably Corsair or similar) PSU. I have had two computers die on me due to generic PSU's, and when that happens, you can expect to loss a lot more than just the PSU.

However, id imagine its in PC Specialists best interest to avoid placing sub-par goods (Which as far as I am concerned, includes OEM PSU's) in their systems. Id send them a email to double check. That is what I did for my laptop a few years back and they where very helpful.

Anywho, in regards to performance, that system should be fine at that resolution, in fact youd probs be safe to drop some performance, though you may as well max out your budget for a slightly more future proof system.

Personally id go for something like this:

    i3 2120 3.3ghz
    Asus p8h61 -mx
    8gb DDR3 1333ghz (or 1600mhz if possible)
Any one of these cards tbh: 1gb 560 Ti, 550 Ti, AMD 6870/6850.
250gb (Check the upgrade price, it may be worth jumping up to around 500 gb if the price is right, though not at all necessary)
    500w BRANDED PSU.

Thanks for the tip about the hdd he gets an extra 250gb for £2 lol. Branded psu is as expensive as I feared. Even the cheapest knocks the price up £50 so he will probably stick with the better graphics card

All I would say is, if the cheapest branded PSU is an EXTRA £50, it should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the one they plan to use. You can BUY a decent PSU for that!

I once had a rubbish PSU and it toasted my GFX card :(

So you can get a cheap PSU and expensive card, but be prepared to end up with a cheap PSU and expensive inedible toast ;)

edit: of course you could just rid yourself of the i3 and gfx, get an AMD 3870K and spend what you save on the PSU. I have the 3870k and play wow, and it plays it fine.

edit2: oh, you cant built it yourself. Nevermind :(

I would go along with this suggestion..
A 350W PSU is preferred in such cases..
