Well it's been a few months since I last entered, and this sort of fits the theme, so here goes. It'll probably be replaced by something slightly better this weekend (I hope :worried:).

Any criticism is very welcome. :D

Really nice shot, the mist is pretty wicked and liking the blue cast. Maybe cropping out where's a gap in the boardwalk in the bottom left? Would make a nicer foreground imho.

    Not bad at all, Nath.

I like the overall blue cast to the photo. It fits the atmoshpere, and the contest theme, quite well. I also like the layers evident in the photo: the planks in the foreground, the mist in the middleground, the trees in the far-middleground, and the clouds in the background. There is something interesting in each layer, and I believe that's one of the things that makes this photo work.

I agree with the others that the gap in the lower left is somewhat distracting. Cropping that out from the bottom would take away too much from the planks, in my opinion, and coming in from the left would eliminate too much of that nice tree.

Personally, I think you would be perfectly justified in cloning in a couple more boards to hide the gap. Call it an art print and you're set.

Nice shot there, for all the reasons already mentioned.

I'd agree on PS'ing a plank or two in there too - it'd be a shame to crop the bottom of the pic and lose the full thickness of the boardwalk in the bottom corners.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm trying to improve as much as I possibly can, to get up to the same standard as the new camera.

As far as the planks go, I think I'll try to clone another one in rather than cropping, cause I quite like the trees reaching the side of the frame right in the corner. Will have a play in Photoshop tomorrow. :D

I agree with rtt on the bullocks, kidding, great photo and the agreement with ajack.

This was with your nice, shiny new 30D, yes?

Fantastic shot Nath, love the subtle mist, and general blueness. What time was it taken (EXIF seems to be missing...)?

I wonder - is the location the Silent Pool in Surrey? I was trying to walk there a couple of weeks ago but didn't quite make it.

Thanks very much trigger. There's no EXIF info because it was HDR'd slightly, but it was at about 6.20AM on the 14th of March.

I'm afraid it's not the Silent Pool, it's just a lake that people fish on near my house (up in Manchester).

can u upload a larger image if u have one, would love this centered on my desktop.

1280x1024 would be ideal...but depends on what size pic u took i guess.

Wow. That is simply amazing. Nice work!

I would also like a wallpaper resolution, I know it's your work and all so no problem if you don't want to. But I am sure a lot of us would love this on the desktop!

    Also nice website!

Fantastic pic, Nath. Love the mist on the lake, and the lighting is excellent. The slight curvature created by the shape of the lake I think really helps draw the eye in from the jetty.

As for that gap bottom-left; that's why Adobe invented perspective cloning in CS2! :D

Sorry for the bump, but is it possible to get a link to a bigger resolution i.e. for 1600 x 1050 wallpaper.

    Cheers
