A couple of broken park fountains in Princess Island Park, Calgary Alberta Canada.

EDIT: I decided to take Hwulexs advice and crop the image. I managed to get the access to pump controls out of the picture. Too bad thats locked, I might be able to get the fountain going!
    Big image original

click for BIGGER! Around 4MB or 3072x2048 pix.

    So, whadya think?

EDIT: Figure I'd add some EXIF info and what not.
    Code:
Camera Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
    Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec.
    Lens Aperture: F/11
    Focal Length: 17 mm
    ISO Speed: ISO-100
Date Picture Taken: 12/07/2006 11:06 AM
I used the Canon 17-40 F/4L USM lens that I borrowed from a friend.
I did full manual everything. Except for focus. I aimed the cam's center focal point at the right fountain and took a focus lock, then moved into the middle (after scooching over.)

EDIT2: I should also mention that there was an Asian couple looking at the photo of eachother they took, (hidden behind the left fountain). I scooched over just a bit and took the photo knowing the opportunity to get a pic with no one in it was sparse.

I like the two very different architectures you've got going on there, that's was well thought out.

The background is a teeny bit too busy tho imho, as are the bushes in the foreground. Not much you can do about that tho.

Yeah, I agree that it does look busy. But if you work downtown you'll know just how busy it really is!
So many business in and about, big and small. The different ones striving to stick out.

EDIT: made a couple changes to my original post.

I would agree with ajack that the background is a bit busy, especialy with the construction crane on the right-hand side. That's not hard at all to fix, though. shooting with a wider aperture will decrease the depth of field, throwing the background out of focus. This will help keep the viewer's attention on the fountains.

An interesting angle might have been to try to capture the cityscape in the reflection of the water in the fountains.

Going back to the park to try and retake, the fountains aren't quite high enough to get in the shot with it. Otherwise they are in the shot of the water surrounding the fountains, its just distorted a lot. I was surprised the detail in the water would show up that well!

Would be kinda neet shot though.

I still like the (man made) damn :)lol:) picture I'm gonna upload later on tonight when I get home.

Maybe im just being difficult but I like the cluttered city background. Compared the simplicity of the fountain I quite like it.

    What are you talking about??

slight little oops on the server config. My bad ;) I've fixed it. And I'll probably break it again in about two days while I wait for pygo subdomain to resolve!

You could join the bit-tech Flickr group, then you'd never have to worry about it again. ;)

Personally I don't mind the busy background, it works well in providing that urban/rural contrast. An area of peace amongst the concrete jungle, kind of thing.

I would definitely crop out the bushes to the extreme left, and right, of the frame. The drain is also unfortunate, but nothing much you can do there.

Thanks, I might look into that.
I agree on the bushes there, though when you blow the image up, it isn't exactly to proportions.
I'll have a play with it maybe.

Looks good indeed. So you mean to say there are 2 people behind that left fountain?
Wow that means either those fountains are huge or those are two tiny' li'l asians!

    HAHA!

They where walking around, likely tourists. A female took the males picture (the male looked much younger and could be a son.) and the wide angle of view I chose allowed the fountain to cover them up more.

Do you work downtown Henry? I'm just a 10 minute walk away from the park myself :)

EDIT: I have a pics of a few other things you may or may not have seen there ;) I'll dig em up when I get home (if I remember!)
