My sisters pc runs a 1.3ghz athalon thunderbird which gets up to around 65C in games. I am quite sure this is causing the instability of her pc. It sometimes switches itself off (i think the thermal protection of the mobo) and sometimes restarts. The powersupply is not a problem as it is a 300w fortron psu. It also has a geforce256 which is running very hot. I was just wondering what cpu cooler would be rated to run this proc at low temps. I was thinking around a volcano 9+ but all the ratings are for xp chips which im quite sure run at lower temps than the thunderbird. Thanks in advance.
umm volcano 9 should be ok... basically anything rated to 3200 will be more than adequate... I think the heat output from the 1.33 is about the same as that of a 1800 pally... Got one @ home runnin at 1ghz, its 45°C load, with a cooler rated to XP2000+ with fan on 7v could you not underclock if she doesnt need the extra speed...?
http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=296 Does the motherboard have mounting holes for a hs? if so u could consider a sk7 or such like...
Mounting holes, eh? An Alpha PAL 8045 with Coolermaster White LED fan @7v cools my [barely] o'ced 1700+XP down to 33c at load.
Don't think so, used to be abel to pick them up for under 20 quid... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Thermalright_120.html Tho both a socket mounted, so no need for mounting holes
ah, i got it mixed up with the alpha, which is heavier on the mobo and the wallet Would an antec led fan cool the 1.3 with the sk7 enough?
should do, if you can mod the hs to take an 80mm, summit like a zalman braket might allow you to mount it right above the sink, then mod some kind of ducting..?
If you don't want to spend a deal of money, the Speze Raptor at Extreme Cooling looks good @ £11.75, 80mm fan so quieter than most and a nice 3-point clip. Good reviews too.
Its a coolermaster..... something Fits on a Socket A cpu Adjustable fan Copper bit on the bottom 6 months worth of shelf-dust & crunchy old arctic silver on the bottom I do belive its one of these though...
indeed minus its funny grill I've got one cooling a TB1.1 without a problem, with a non-adjustable 30ish cfm fan and it keeps it in the 45-50C range
I took the grill off because its pointless having a fan guard on a cooler that is sealed in a case. And I'm pretty sure its a HACV81 - pic looks the same on the coolermaster link...
Luckily the somewhat crunchy Arctic Silver just wiped off the bottom of the cooler so it wont end up smeared all over the place in transit
