While it is nice to see a reputable shop list a 1080 for near what they are worth... a 1080 is complete overkill for use with an old 1080p TV.

Thanks everyone for you input. I thought long and hard and decided to go for a 1080 Gigabyte Windforce for £480 from ebuyer a little more than my budget but hey who can resist a new component . I know it is overkill for the TV i currently use but looking at 1070ti cards there wasn't that much difference in price. And as i said in a previous post the TV is 6/7 years old and who know when it will go bang.

    Thanks again one and all.:thumb:

In the world of computing nothing within reason is overkill. It will be dead tech in less than 3 years any way.

    True enough.

Overkill now but it'll last you a while into the future running a 1080p tv.

At least if the tv goes bang you have options.

You could use DSR to push it to 1440p. It's very easy to do :)

I recently bought a Apple Cinema display. 21", IIRC, might be 22? when I game I use VSR (AMD) to push it from 1680x1050 to 2560x1600. It looks absolutely amazing, and the Fury X I have is more than capable so long as you don't question the VRAM very hard. For Far Cry 5 it is brilliant. Have played about 20 hours, it really does look amazing.

Mild hijack here. I have a 770 and am looking at the same upgrade. I run 1080p 144hz monitor though. Would the 1060 still be a good choice for the discerning wallet?

Not sure but I imagine you'd need a 1070 over a 1060 for 144hz/1080p unless you're into turning settings down.

Not got experience of that though so probably best take what I say with a pinch of salt.

For older games a 1060 would be good enough to feed a 1080p 144hz monitor, but for recent games the 1070 / 1070ti (or a 1080 if you can find one cheap) would be much better.
