I'm going to visit some family in europe over the summer and would love to bring along a computer to play with my cousin and his friends. I'm looking at the shuttle sn85g4 and build my system from that. Prob is the outlets are all 240v over there. I've found this picture however from a shuttle psu:

It looks like as long as I have the right cable it should work right? Just to be on the safe side though, usually aren't psu's supposed to have that orange switch next to the psu socket?

Do you think I'll be fine? I would hate to blow up my athlon.

most better psu's dont have switches on them.

if it doesnt have a switch and it says its rated for 100-240 it SHOULD be good.

    It's 220V in Euorope, actually. There's a +- 20 margin of error, though.

If its got the switch, or says on the label that it'll do 110 - 240v then it should be fine.

My tagan has no switch, but autodetects and works on either.

If you're not sure, unplug the PSU from the system and try it on it's own, that way if you blow it you just need to buy a new PSU rather than a new board/CPU/RAM (the usual casualties of PSU deadage)

    Thats a great idea.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Btw, any recommendations on traveling with a pc? Things to watch out for, security and so forth at airports?

take out the hdd, put it in your personal luggage, show it to them, dont let them scan it, the scanners tend to mess with them afaik.

If it goes out of your sight make sure it is well wrapped up, i have heard more then one account of computers being damaged by the gentle touch of bagage handlers.

x-rays will not adversely affect a hard drive, but it's still a good idea, as that's where all your data is, and it's the most fragile part of your computer.

I just tested it and got 239.3V.

As far as I know they've stated that we have a "harmonised" voltage of 230V to fit in with the rest of europe, but I've never seen any engineers change the secondary tap on any of the transformers round here.

Have you looked at your monitor yet? Most that I've seen are suitable for worldwide voltages, and switch automatically, but just make sure!

I'm not bringing a monitor. Screw carrying a 40lb crt! I'll just borrow one from my cousin.

p3n, I'm interested how you carried your shuttle as hand baggage? Did you have a special bag? Did you have to take it out for security?
