Hmmm, now I'm thinking seriously about the Corsair H50. Would it offer better cooling than the Dark Rock do you think?
I'd like some advice too if possible I have an ASUS P5K-Premium skt 775: http://www.dosv.jp/mb_bb/img/2007/11/asustek_01_01.jpg with 4 DIMMs of Corsair Dominator memory: http://www.overclockersonline.net/images/articles/corsair/twin3x2048-1800c7dfin/large/install-4.jpg (pics aren't mine but I can take some if required) I'm using the stock cooler on my Q6600 and want to upgrade it for more quiet and cooling. I have my eyes set on the Dark Rock Advanced like the OP but don't know whether it would fit and clear the top of the DIMMs. Is it worth getting or would a Freezer 7 Pro do just fine? If I do get it, I plan to do some overclocking in the immediate future or hang on to it and use it in a new build also when the time comes.
Can't really help with that, I've not ever tried that combination. Might be worth starting your own thread for it as people reading this thread have followed the title which is specific to my situation, you'll get more replies that way. I've gone for the H-50 in the end. Recorded some delta Ts last night, when it turns up I'll install it and stress test again for comparison. Hopefully I can run a nice OC under some water cooling.
I doubt with 4 DIMMS of Dominator memory that the Dark Rock would fit, it generally always overhangs the first memory slot. The Freezer 7 Pro would probably be the best option, still a decent cooler.
Just a little update to my previous picture with Mega Shadow, i got my quad kit (16GB) today, so there it is for those interested : As you can see, the fan sits on top of the first memory module and the clips hang over the 2nd memory module a bit - on other side without the fan directly on CPU and the angled fan bellow the CPU cooler blowing in the direction of Megahalems/Mega Shadow you would have all 4 memory slots free for RAM with any heatsink height.
