Western Digital Raptor X Becomes Official Hard Drive of Reason Gaming

    Gaming cubes powered by the world's fastest Serial ATA drive

    WORCESTER - AUGUST 7 2006 – A new partnership between Reason Gaming, the UK’s premier multi gaming organisation and Western Digital, the manufacturer of the worlds fastest Serial ATA hard drive will enable the squads of Reason Gaming to train and compete on the WD Raptor X drive. The WD Raptor X 150 GB features a Crystalline Polycarbonate lens which shows the drive in action at 10,000RPM. Renowned for reliability the new drive features enterprise-class reliability and makes use of Native Command Queuing to Increases data transfer in high-performance environments.

    The updated machines will first be seen in action at Multiplay’s i28 event between August 25th – 28th. Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2 and Quake 4 squads. Each machine features a window on the top and sides and visitors will be invited to see the Western Digital Raptor X in action.

    “Gamers don’t need to worry about excessive storage space, its all about the speed of access and it is quite clear that the WD Raptor will give our players a clear advantage” states Gavin Bailie, Reason’s Operations Director.

    Each of the twenty gaming cubes built by Gladiator Computers will now feature a single WD Raptor X 150 GB. The 10,000RPM gives a staggering 4.6ms seek time and the large 16MB cache eases data transfer.

    “The addition of such a powerful drive to an already impressive specification will be really well received by our players and they are all looking forward it.” States Sam Akroyd, Battlefield 2 squad leader.

    you would think they would use the WD1500ADFD as opposed to the Raptor X, with it being faster and cheaper and all

    though it isnt as leet :rolleyes:

    and NCQ decreases performance in all but heavy usage server environments

    So Raptor X is just marketing hype and isn't really the fastest hard drive?

    That's interesting to know. So why do most modern hard drives have it then?

    Because it's easy to build it into drives, they'll fullfill more purposes with it then without it, and it's another feature to boast.

    Yes, but it decreases performance with most applications. Suppose, like you said, it is another feature to boast.

    It's there because it sells the product. In the minds of most people, NCQ gives better performance than without and SATA 3Gb/s doubles the speed of your drive :sigh:

    No, it decreases performance with most workstation applications. That doesn't mean it's useless.

    What hitman says is spot on imo.
