I'm not new to building PCs - this is the oddest thing I've come across. Just built a new rig, specs below. Had to RMA the mobo first time round for a separate issue. It worked perfectly for a few days afterwards. Now I've got the strangest situation. I shut it down, and come back to reboot it. No POST, no beeps, case fans don't spin - only the CPU fan spins. HDD activates. CPU_LED is a constant red. the POST code reader is blank. No display signal. No evidence of the boot sequence happening. I try resetting CMOS to no avail. Between 10 and 12 hours later, I wearily try booting it one more time, and all of a sudden it boots normally, all OK. No noticeable difference or malfunction inside or outside Windows. I shut it down again, relieved the rig's ok. Then the above happens all over again. And like clockwork, 10-12 hours later, it boots up again normally. And repeat. The last time I managed to boot successfully, I updated the BIOS to the latest version available, but this has made no difference since, with it needing to reboot after flashing, it went straight into the 'no boot' part of the cycle. Any suggestions would be most welcome, since evidently nothing is DOA. More comatose. Specs: Intel i5-3570k Asus Maximus V Gene Zotac GTX 670 AMP! Just found that 1 of the case fans is indeed working. It's plugged into the no.1 socket. Fans plugged into 2 & 3 still aren't working. The guys from ASUS are saying RMA it again.
Hmmmm. I also get a similar problem on my server. I turn it off to work on it and then when I turn it back on all I get is a single beep and nothing. I think I usually have to unplug it for a bit, cant remember how long but maybe 10 - 20 mins, and then it will work. Power supply is a Cooler Master 1000Watt, cant remember model number as not at server.
Worked a charm, scorpuk. Therefore I am very much more inclined to think it's a PSU issue. Unfortunately it's a scavenged PSU from an old build 5 years ago, so I can hardly RMA it! Fix it with a new'un I think. Thank you very much!
Probably a heat / usage issue. My money would be something having a bad connection, either something you can fix (jiggle about!) or something hardware / internal. Rule out the power switch first, then the case, then the PSU. If it's none of the above it'll be going through the usual steps to work out if it's mobo, cpu,GPU, RAM or something else.
