And there was me hoping that it'd force GTX prices down and as such put the GTS into the budget (affordable) line.
Not entirely sure I like the looks of the cooler but I guess that doesn't really matter as I'd never see it anyway.

I had hoped that the performance would be a little better :( . Its not bad, it's just that I spent £400 on an eVGA 8800GTX which means I spend £100 more on the step-up program and gain max 11% (I dont play Quake 4).

I'm more inclined to save the money for another 8800GTX.

Nice review though and sweet cooler :thumb:

So is this basically an overclocked 8800 GTX with larger bandwith?

The thing is, you could probably oc the GTX to the realms of that card anyway. I have a BFG GTX OC isn't clocked far off it lol

Yes, the bandwidth being provided partially by the overclock (comparatively) on the memory. The speed thanks to the new memory chips is what really pushes the card up a bit.

On the contrary, I actually really like the look of that cooler. This is mainly due to it's clean styling as well as minimal colour usage - I tend to dislike the coolers where they put an image or something on there, tbh. This is pretty much guaranteed what companies will do with this card as well, so I'm just hoping it's possible to get the nVIDIA branded one.

lol, the only thing stopping me from renaming my pair as ultra is the locked memory and memory chips, my current speed (on both) is over the ultra stock speed. :naughty:

So 250 extra dollars for around 5 - 10 greater avg fps? That's just ridiculous. Might as well just flush your money down a toilet.

Nice card, shame about the price.

I know what you mean about having issues with video drivers in Vista 64 though, my 6600 worked fine for two months, but lately I keep getting a black screen for a few seconds and then a "Driver stopped but has successfully recovered" error message on the desktop about every 2-5 seconds which is annoying.

Definitly interested in reviews using Vista 64 and x86.

I think my plan is still to upgrade to a DX10 card - at this point looking like an 8800 GTS 320/640mb along with vista home premium 64 at some point around summer or maybe later, depending on how the launches of DX10 titles go (The one I'm likely to use most, CCP's Trinity 2 engine for eve is now aiming for "before the end of 2007" so it might even be quite a bit later if nothing else great hits before that)

So yes, definetely interested in 64 bit reviews.

Even if money was no object, would still leave these cards and get the GTX. The price is simply stupid. 5fps more for £140? Er, no.
