    Mine does the same - startup and shut down. Don't know about your program crashes, but I've had Vistas work great or completely sporadically.

    did you grab the updates? there was one specifically for the taskmanager issue.

    as to the startup/shutdown, that's supposedly fixed in SP1

    There are specific performance patches no available through windows update but are through Microsoft's website - there was news about it on here a while back (Tim tells me).
