    Far Cry 2 Preview

At Ubidays 2008 we recently we got a chance to get some up-close experience with Far Cry 2 and managed to swing not one but two bouts of hands-on time. Check out our thoughts and impressions within!

"blasting holes in walls with a shotgun"

That made me very happy in the pants.

Here's hoping the rest of the game's as good :B

So no mention of mutants and/or aliens in the game then?

THAT made me very happy in the pants.

I lost interest in Far Cry and Crysis when they started cropping up.

The picture with the SVD Dragunov... the rifle is modeled completely backwards.

Looks good none the less, path-less games are a must!

The game Crysis should have been? Looks likely. I've always thought Far Cry 2 looked ace, which would be a pleasent first for a company picking up a franchise from a different developer.

Too many games seem to make this mistake. I'm not quite sure how devs manage to do it. Hopefully it won't be as bad as the CS reloading animations.

My thoughts exactly. Looks to be at least promising though. I'm holding out hope that it will be worthy of my money.

Damn.. That looks gorgeous. And the AI sounds like it will actually make it playable. Putting this one down on my list of must gets.

IIRC: It's an inhouse Ubisoft thing called Dunia.

Wiki: "Ubisoft has developed a new engine specifically for Far Cry 2, called Dunia, meaning "world" or "earth" in Swahili, as well as in other languages including Hindi, Marathi, Turkish, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Persian, Assyrian, Indonesian, Malay, and Arabic. The engine will take advantage of multi-core processors and support DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10. Only 2 or 3 percent of the original CryENGINE code is being re-used, according to Michiel Verheijdt, Senior Product Manager for Ubisoft Netherlands."

I saw a gameplay demo thing for this game a while ago, and good god the flames look brilliant, the way they move and behave is brilliant. Hopefully it'll run well on this PC. :D

Deninfitely thinking about picking this one up when it comes out.

I'll skip this then... when will they understand realism doesn't equal fun? ... Balance is another matter (miniguns overheating if you just blast for 30 seconds in cod4 for example) - a gun jamming could easily set you back to the start of a mission - dumb.
