I'm sorry but I'll wait for a similar quality 22" monitor that offers 1920 x 1080 or better still 1920 x 1200..... finer DPI for Cheesecake!!!

Such as the LG W2220P due in July at approx. 260 Euros? From my own experience I'd not want a 22" with 1920x1200 resolution, though. Things get a bit too nitty gritty. 1680x1050 is near perfect for 22" monitors.

I disagree, the high resolution of 1920x1080 on a 22" monitor is not the ideal resolution, its a strain to the eyes when reading websites or documents. Its just to small. I think 1680 is perfect for a 20>22 inch monitor.

I feel the need to once again pimp the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA. My company just ordered and got about 30 of them. Everyone is happy! :)

At a price of about £200 it's ludicrously cheap!

I am writing this on my 15" dell XPS m1530 with a resolution of 1920x1200. After this, 1680x1050 on a 22" screen looks awful. Blocky and childish. We definitely need to see more 1920x1200 on 22" monitors!

well, what's the perfect 24" then? If no one can agree on a 22", is there such a thing as the perfect monitor anymore? Does it exist in the 24"'s, or are we waiting there too?

Well I'm currently using a Samsung 215TW and I find that it's just a tad too pixelly (is that a word?) when browsing the web (with clear type on). Gaming almost certainly requires AA to smooth the image out.... unless the game supports post rendering effects

My brother runs a 20" LG at 1680 x 1050 and that seems to be much better, he can get away without cranking up AA to improve image quality.

You might want to wait for the LG W2420P then. Also to appear in July for about 400 Euros. Decent enough price, in my opinion.

Or you could grab an LG W2600HP (26") now for a little bit more. Only the HP version comes with an S-IPS panel, though. The H version uses a TN panel...

thats a stupid comparison as most people dont have their face 6 inches from the damn screen in a desktop setting. of course if they would have to if trying to look at 1920 text on a smallish monitor. I have great vision and no way in hell would have a 1920 res on a display smaller than 23 inches.

I don't get the talk about 1920x1080. This is a computer monitor. Not a TV set. If you want to watch movies buy a proper flat screen TV instead. Movies don't belong on computer displays. And 1920x1200 on a 22inch is a bit too small DOT pitch.
I've been using a 19inch 1280x1024 for a long while and when I tried a 17inch 1280x1024 I noticed that it was very compressed compared to what I was used to.

I'm not saying there is a definite rule here. Some people grow accustomed to a certain DOT pitch.

When did I say I have my head 6 inches from the screen? Right now I am sitting slouched on a futon with the laptop on my lap, the screen is at least 40 cm away from my eyes. I use a firefox plugin which makes websites 120% bigger, but that is all. Everything else - windows fonts etc. are the the normal size. Really, don't knock it until you try it, it's great. I don't have perfect vision either; I need another eye test soon.

If they started making 22" screens with 1920x1200 resolution more commonly, people would get used to them and they would sell.

Uhh... no. 1920*1080 and 1920*800 are fine for movies, but I would take a 16:10 over a 16:9 for computer-ing any day. To me, 16:9 just looks too short and fat, and doesn't leave enough vertical space to do things like read documents and websites without ungodly amounts of scrolling, for example.

After getting my 16:9, 22" I actually kept my old 17" as a vertical monitor. It's what I use when I'm viewing the web or writing single documents. Then I use the 22" for gaming and movies. The setup works quite well, and I love the 1080p.

I completely disagree. I like to lie in bed and watch things, and quite frankly wouldn't want bigger than 22" in my room. My living situation for the foreseeable future is also non conducive towards a proper home theatre setup (unfortunately).

What I really want out of a monitor is a 20" PVA at 1680x1050. 22"+ monitors just feel silly to me for desktop use, but a good quality panel combined with a fine dot pitch would be perfect.
