Neat idea to put all the ports on the back where the chassis is a bit thicker. My netbook is far from slim, but still looks silly as some ports (namely VGA) are almost bigger than the laptop is thick!

If it does house a CULV, then this could be a winner, lightweight with solid performance (compared to atom/celeron)

Even if a C2D bumps it up to £500-600 it still looks like an awesome bit of kit.

jeez, they just had to annouce these after i already spent my xmas bonus.

one of these would be great as a streaming media player, saves me having to lug my studio 17 to bed if i want to watch a show.

Adamo XPS and Mac Book Air kickstarted the trend? Really?

So what were the Sony SR1 series laptops, or the later SRX series? Hardly paving slabs, & around the same weight (standalone) as a bag of sugar. And fit in an A4 envelope too. I still have my old SRX 51/P, I checked!

Edit: The Dell site gives the UK pricing as £359.

Which makes me sad indeed, as at a sub-£300 it seemed exactly what I was looking for.

What's happened to the 300 quid 7-hour netbooks, though?

A pal of mine has an eee-1000, which seems to last through ice ages. All the modern ones have mechanical disks.

What is the performance of the ULV Celeron like compared to the Atom? I assume its quicker but by how much?

that's £359 *plus* VAT... once you add that it goes over the £400 mark... a core solo bumps it to over £500

I think that this is what netbook consumers really want. They want a cheap, real computer that is small-ish but not tiny. At least, I think that's what most consumers want.

It'll be interesting to see what wireless chipset it uses, could be a nice little experiment machine for running backtrack. I was at the eeePC 'cos it has the wireless chipset I need, but this looks very swish.
