Things are looking worse and worse for nVidia by the day.

Well, seeing as i only game at 1280x1024, the newly announced 5830 looks like being the sweet spot for me, if it comes in at under £150....which is a BIG if, with profiteering UK retailers up to their usual practice of ripping off the UK consumer, just because they can.

What you've failed to mention is Dolby bit-streaming audio (in my quick skim before logging off).

Around £80, bit streaming audio, single slot, and no PCIe power connector? This looks like an HTPC dream!

I'll be interested to see what prices the 5400/5500 cards come in- if AMD have any sense at all there will be half height versions of these cards (and who knows, maybe even All-in-Wonders!)

Makes me quite fond of my recent 9800gt purchase and on top of that I only paid 30 pounds!

Would the addition of a better cooler and Power connector affect overclocking?

I don't get it... I have an overclocked 9600GT that plays all games except Crysis and GTA IV on max details @ 1650x1080 and you can pick up one of these cards for around £80... Are these cards so much worse or am I missing something here?

bit streaming audio, single slot, and no PCIe power connector, HTPC

4850 needs 2 power connectors (i think) and needs to slots, HDMI audio output is lesser and no DS port

So we have a great card for the market is was meant to.

Let's see if someone from the modding picks one up for a new build.

Tbh, most products will be dual slot - only the reference card is single slot. And bit-streaming audio will be beneficial to a very small fraction of everyone with a HTPC. Most people use DVD quality audio, and of those, very few have proper surround sound setups.

4850 requires a single PCI-E connector, some of them have HDMI - or at least all are provided with active HDMI adapters that include audio, and who gives a **** about displayport? :p We dont even have a single DS cable in our lab!!

You forget the critical fact that the 4850 is probably going the way of the Dodo very soon now that the 5670 is out.

price of the card at £100 is to high for this card thought to be usefull due to the price of the 4850 or 4870 been only little bit more then that

I'll be more interested in their 40nm replacement for the HD4350. These mid range cards are pointless as they can't play modern games, but low end cards aren't meant to. All they have to do is decode HD video at the lowest power consumption possible. When will we see a HD5350?

Not too long to wait I'd imagine, looking at the roadmap on page 1!
