    No, i haven't read the review yet, as at that price, its completely irrelevant....

    Sorry, but the prices on this gen of ATI gfx cards are a complete piss take.

    colour me unexcited...

    this series of cards just isn't doing for me outside the 5850 at the original price.

    I hope ati stops gouging when fermi releases... sadly given it's troubles it could be christmas before we get bang for buck.

    Are the 5series cards any quieter than the 4series? The Gainward 4870 i had sounded like a ****ing jet engine, The 275GTX ive got now is near silent, so ill be waiting to see what nvidia can produce.
    Im not upgrading till i can get better performance that A.Doesnt cost stupid money and B.Doesnt blow my eardrums at load!

    Quote: 'with a GPU clock of 800MHz (75MHz more than the HD 5850 and 50MHz less than the HD 5770), and a memory clock of 1GHz (4GHz effective).'

    So is the HD5830 faster than a HD5870 and the HD5770 is 50mhz faster than the HD5830.
    God that HD5830 is nealry as fast as a HD5970 lol.

    Think someone has made a typo. :p

    5770=850mhz
    5830=800mhz (which is 75mhz more than the 5850 and 50mhz less than the 5770)
    5850=725mhz
    5870=850mhz
    5970=725mhz

    Looks right to me

    If you think nvidias are gonna be any different then your sadly mistaken. How much was the GTX280 when it first released? Heck, ATI/nvidia are buisness's and last time I looked the idea was to make the biggest profit possible. They can charge what ever they want for their products and it seems people are willing to pay. Without competition why should they reduce them?

    Like G80 was cheap when there was no credible competitor.

    I think this card will get better with age as the drivers mature and the board partners drive up the value.

    I agree price of this card is about £30 too expensive.

    Am thinking about upgrading my 4870X2 but I think it is wise to hold off until Fermi is released and let ATi & Nvidia have a bit of a price war.

    Exactly! Apart from the very few, most people are waiting to see a good comparison so they can make an educated judgement on where their current GPU stands and on which GPU upgrade they should go for. But that is the point, a GOOD comparison. Not just an explanation of where these ATi cards stand within their own product ranges but against their rivals, and at this point that is just guess work. A good GPU purchase in my opinion should easily be able to support your requirements for a minimum of 18months so the extra few to wait for Fermi should be, as hasn't been that much of an issue.

    As for those who have HAD to make a purchase for a new build that couldn't wait or a GPU replacement then it is about getting the best you can at the time, so good luck to you. As for the rest that rushed out... well I think you have more money than sense as even if you decided to go for an ATi GPU after nVidia launch Fermi surely the prices will be better and are you really getting much benefit at the moment from your DX11 hardware?

    I appreciate that Bit-tech keeps up their pace on reviewing stuff I care about, but WHY does Amd and Nvidia keep giving us these sucky cards? Do some research and give us a better card than the last :p

    Nope the review is correct.

    Whilst the price of this HD5830 is a joke (compared to where we have been) it does make me feel better about my £280 Asus HD5870 VT clocked at 1000/5200 : )

    May hay while the sun shines is the phrase that springs to mind.

    When FERMI is released I expect these prices to drop to exactly what Bit-Tech predicted.
    At the moment they are just riding the Dx11 wave.

    What interests me though, is that although I have an NVidia GTX260 at the moment, I have always seen ATi as being more interested in their customers than NVidia. Where Nvidia see a chance to make money, ATi saw a way to make fans.
    This changes that, and I wonder if its the AMD wing saying "OK our processors haven't kept up with Intel, so you had better recoup our loses with your GPU's".

    The problem is that the GTX 480 and 470 will be high end parts - the mid range and upper mid range targeted by the HD 5830 and HD 5770 won't be effected:(

    I've not read much on FERMI apart from the fact that it should have been out a while ago. Does anyone know why it's not out yet? Are they having engineering problems or are they taking ages to polish the drivers? Feels like forever since a new high end Nvidia product has been released.
