Couldn't agree more with the thought on an appropriate OS for given hardware.

Isn't Chrome OS made for tablets and Android for phones? Except Chrome OS isn't out yet so they're bridging the gap with Android?

I'd expect a larger presence from Google in the future, when they do have a product to put on devices.

I was under the impression that Meego gave a pretty good showing at Computex with advanced demos on the Qanta tablet? Also a bunch of partners making use of the OS in a number of devices such as TV entertainment systems etc.

Very interesting read. I haven't really been following much computex stuff apart from the content you guys have been posting (thanks!).

I definitely agree with your statement on Intel's outlook on the desktop processor. These days everybody only wants netbooks and smart phones which is great for ARM and VIA. So it will be interesting to see what AMD and Intel bring to the table as far as low power/performance processors in the coming two years or so,

Yeah, this is the area where Rich and I disagree - but then he saw the Intel keynote, and I didn't (there's only so much ground one person can cover!). I think it's one thing to have a keynote and to talk about a product, it's another to have it on the show floor, or on partners' stands and be talking about when it's ready to launch. The latter wasn't really the case for Intel - I didn't see any partners with Meego stuff on their stands.

Firstly, MeeGo is a Nokia-Intel joint product. :X Why does most blogs keep failing to include Nokia?

Secondly, judging from http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/01/meego-moorestown-powered-tablet-hands-on/ it's still regarded as pre-alpha, so that's possibly why they didn't want to show it off.

Those MSI touchscreen PCs are very interresting. Not as a novelty, but something i'd actually buy if i wasn't an enthusiast. It's like an iMac except with better features and cheaper.

Good analysis, and I'd agree. It is interesting to see companies focussing on mobile and small specialist devices doing well, and those being stuck on applying their conventional desktop technology (and even trying to force it into a mobile frame) doing badly. Perhaps Steve Jobs was not so crazy after all...

That nVidia is not heavily marketing the Tegra shows incredibly bad, CEO sack-worthy leadership. It's as if they haven't been paying attention over the last six months. This is also why Google is not doing as well as Apple --it does not control its own hardware platform. And Google is doing nothing about it. It should be schmoozing up to ARM heavier than a drunk salaryman at an out-of-town business convention to a barstool prostitute and make its own mobile devices. It's the only combination that could compete with the iPad. MeeGo? Interesting, but still too clunky and too late. Microsoft would do well to focus on one single mobile project and do it well. Windows Mobile 7 is the only real alternative to iOS.

By the time other companies catch up Apple will have already defined the market, much like Microsoft did in the early Nineties. Too late said the White Rabbit. Computex just showed a hollow pit of absence of vision. It's the people, stupids, not the technology.

VIA is a winner? Okay... as someone who've bought a couple of VIA's motherboards and laptops, I can only tell you that they're sucks, no more VIA for me, ever! >.>

He's not saying that Via products are going to blow the world away (and to be fair, they did qualify that Via was looking at the low power market, like parking meters), bu

The article's subject isn't how good a company's products are, it's giving an insight on how confident and good a company looked at Computex.

According to both bit-tech correspondants who saw, Via did well at Computex, and this is what the article is stating. That's not how good the products are.
