A nice concept is all really, I can never see myself having a genuine use for one either but I said the same about the Ipad and it certainly didn't flop. Have to admire ASUS' optimism though.

I don't think going with Windows XP was a good idea, a customer linux distro would have been better, or even windows 7.

Did they really need to put an atom in this? I'm sure they could have used something else that is low powered but with a bit more grunt.

excellent idea, but a bit early in execution.

wait a bit, wait for ARM Cortex-A9 dual core chips, then put on a Linux distro designed for media centre.

If I had the spare money I think i'd buy one even just for the rightness of using it as a C64 emulator :)

I would love one of these as a media PC keyboard/mouse/universal remote, if only they released it just as that.... tacking on a full OS is just wrong for this type of device

Its been heavily delayed and design was originally started before Windows 7 was available, due to this I doubt it was economically viable for Asus to start work on a new UI etc for Windows 7.

When the device was originally announced the Atom was the best choice, the trade-off for a ULV Celeron of the same era wouldnt have added up. Especially if you consider the battery life is poor like the review suggests it could be using just an Atom chip.

I guess it would have made more sense to reverse the roles and put the atom in the receiver side and send out the picture to the keyboard. This way you would have a wireless keyboard with a touchscreen and the batterylife could have been a lot better.
Perhaps add a usb port for expansion purposes, plugging in a usb stick or something.

It's such a shame that this thing is basically useless if you want to play HD video.

i don't look at this as a independent device, but more of an epic control device.

Only issue is that you can't be portable... with the current design you can take the keyboard to another room and plug it up to a monitor to use the PC there, then easily move back to the living-room where your receiver is for wireless display. If you move the CPU to the receiver end, you are stuck with only displaying to whatever the receiver is hooked up to (which may not be a bad limitation in some situations).

"The display is capacitive and accepts simple multi-touch gestures in specific scenarios but it doesn't use 'typical' pinch/twist smartphone style ones due to Apple patents."

How can you copyright something as vague as pinch and twist?
Seriously, I'm really asking, and I'm really ticked off.

Honestly I'm not even sure what this does. But whatever it is, it's a very nicely designed piece of kit (aesthetically at least).

It's a beautiful piece of gear!

they should have called it an EEEboard

I can see a use for this if i was doing a lot of mobile writing, pero otro que eso... maybe programming if you dont want to debug right away, or notes if you do that on a compy
