I refuse to sign up for Twitter.

Would that make a good t-shirt slogan?

I don't have twitter so ill just post a suggestion here, I wouldn't mind a bit-tech tshirt with a picture of Harry on it. Perhaps make a small picture and repeat it 50 times over the shirt. :D

I generally despise politicians, of all ilks, but David Cameron had Twitter about right in his pre-election Radio 1 interview:

"I just think too many twits might make a tw@t."

Ha! Beat that Mr American Pres, let's see you swear live on air in front of millions of people! :)

And no, I'm not joining it just because it's the 'chosen' form of entry for some competition. It's puerile, vacuous, and frankly in need of a good powerful magnet running over its servers...

Why would you try to make anyone sign up to Twitter? You've got a forum with almost 55,000 users... :eyebrow:

It's nothing to do with making people sign up to Twitter, merely that it's far easier to give out the codes through Twitter than via Forum PMs. I can send 50 twitter replies in about half an hour, but it would take a lot longer on the PM system or email.

So you don't get the big 'PM CardJoe' button like everyone else?

I can't believe twitter is any faster than click PM user, paste code, press submit?

It is because they can paste it to 5-10 maybe 20 users at once, depending on code length.
But seriously... Twitter... Where's that puke smiley from John again?

Ugh, if I have to explain the intricacies, it's because I have to go to the forum thread, identify each winner, click PM, wait for the page to refresh to the Compose screen, copy the code instructions in, copy the code in and then press send. After that, I'm not taken automatically back to the right forum - so I have to navigate there, find the next person, rinse, repeat.

With the right Twitter client I can do all that without refreshing: Click, copy, paste, click, copy, paste, click...

If I was just sending one person a message, yes, email or forum PM is quicker. For 50, Twitter is quicker.

Twitter also feeds BT popularity because all your twitter friends see you reply to us, rather than just collecting comments on the site.

On top of all that, Twitter may attract a different type of reader to one who checks the front page every day - say, the growing number of people who arrive at the site VIA Twitter.

It's also more likely to attract reader-lurkers; people who read the site often, but don't comment. They haven't been enticed to sign up to the forums yet, but they might sign up to Twitter because it's both quicker than signing in to the forums and because it's a wider and more used communication tool.
