I have seen a 1973 VW Beetle in a friends garage it has had a new engine and clutch 5 years ago and has not been driven since fitted. Although its been in a garage and dry for this time as i would like to purchase this wat should i look for as regards rust and where should i look!

I would appreciate any feedback that u may have. :thumb:

The floorpans are especially good areas for rust. Check under the carpets and from underneath. The rear passengers foot area is one really rust prone area as is under the rear window around the vents. Replacement parts abound for air cooled VWs. Good luck. VWs are great fun.

dont know exactly what to say look for, probably as normal on most older cars, look for rust around the doors and in the footwells as thats sign of leaking, major one i would check is the breaks as if it has been sat for that length of time the breaks could have seized and that can cost quite a bit,

main suggestiong would be to checkout volksworld magazine or simular as they should give some more information than i can, (my brother had a beatle and they are wicked cars done up properly, however i was a 'mini' man :D

Like minimad127 said if you haven't already then get your subscription to volksworld mag. Its a great magazine for beetle's and campers - also it should give you a hand on how to repair any problems you may come across.

Great choice in car, truly magnificent!
