Basically i have just finished putting together my 1st pc and when i power it up, the case and video card fans come on but no display will come up on the screen, monitor is connected to the motherboard as the slot is different to gpu. Any ideas?
Are you saying that you've connected your monitor to the integrated graphics port on the motherboard?
Umm, so you're saying that you have a GPU in an expansion slot but you're using the on-board GPU? In that case you might want to take out the expansion card, because i think integrated GPUs disable themselves if they detect an expansion card. Correct me if i'm wrong. Also, most (if not all) expansion cards come with a DVI-to-VGA converter, so you can use your VGA monitor with a DVI card.
Yes that's exactly what he has done. The computer will display through the graphics card if it is plugged in and onboard will be dissabled. You will need a VGA to DVI connector, one should come with the graphics card and use that to plug ithe monitor into the graphics. Should look like this If you don't have one you can run with the monitor plugged into the motherboard untill you get one but you will need to remove the graphics card.
You sure did @ Hugo: you should check through your stuff again the card should have one with it. and other stuff like here.
That is the oc'd XXX version. Just found this "This card doesn't come with DVI to VGA converters." stupid me :l Guess its off to pc world, assuming they sell them. Lol...£20, maybe not. Shall i stick my 8600gt in for now then?
Slizza!! you're really fenomenal!!! How did you guess from his not very good description??? The culprit is also this forum, which does not allow posting attachments; I have 100 posts and still can't add half stamp!
While installing the heatsink im worried it may have slide around a bit, would this bugger up the application of thermal paste? Or do u think i'll be ok leaving it. I'd rather not have to take it apart again as it is a pain in the ass to fit lol.
I think you should be fine mate. Once you are all set up and running do some tests by installing "real temp" and "Prime 95" Run them both for a little while and look at the temps. If you have any concern over them then report back here with the results.
Well done on your new build Whats the spec of your new build? I imagine if you've gone from an 8600GT to a 4890 your in for a Treat
