TNO, an organization dedicated to technology research, has a posting of 2.5 Gigapixel image.

Image can be found here : http://www.tpd.tno.nl/smartsite966.html

It's pretty amazing you can zoom for what seems like forever.

You can count the bricks on the building, the stones on the roof and the leaves on the trees. :jawdrop:
I bet by 2015 that'll be consumer standard.

That's some scary **** when you think about it. Wonder if they could get fingerprints off someone with a camera like that.

holy cow thats some serious zoom there.

look on the road by the buildings in the middle. you can read the numberplates on the cars and see their makers badges. :jawdrop:

you can zooooooooooooom right into the middle of the far background, and read the name on the side of the yellow tower crane in front of the church. :jawdrop:

and if you look at the flats, you can see peeps on the balcony...... now i have to see if there are any pretty girls sunbathing....... for purely research purposes of course........ checking they got the colour balance right on the skintone......
    :naughty:

half a car, a half bus half car, a topless person, and bottomless person, a little satellite dish on the building on the lower left (some kind of dish), a seagull on the roof of the far left building, someones laundry on their balcony (top left), half a bike...

It is. Read how they did it.

Anyone else think the cars in the right middle area look a bit out of proportion? Or do you UK guys just have weird looking cars? I found something that redefines compact car as far as I'm concerned...

I saw quite a few cars that looked either streched by ~+50% or squeezed into half the space.

The image was captured over 1 and a half hours so i creates a "Bullet time" effect sort of! so some items may disappear half shot or my be stretched out of proportion!
Now what would have been really impressive would have been to take that pic in one shot! :jawdrop:

As much as I love digital photography it still wont make me wanna give up my SLR camera!

Still it creeps ya out to think of how accurate the pic is anyhow. This kinda gives me images of Ghost in the Shell the series where they search through pictures using high res moniters and such(some kind of shoulder mounting eye piece I guess thinga ma jig). Well I just want to know when I can buy a camera that will do that for me heheh. To enjoy the views from miles away hehe.
