Does any of you guys know what I am supposed to be googling to find a switch to enable 2 computers to share 1 Dual DVI monitor?

    It's a minefield out there!

Look up KVM switches. It stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse and you can switch the I/O between any number of different computers

If you want to only have 1 keyboard and 1 mouse, then you'll need a KVM switch.

If however, you don't mind haveing akeyboard and mouse for each computer, then you can just plug the second computer into the second DVI port on the monitor. The use the source button on the monitor/ or in the monitor OSD to select which computer to view.

    Cheers guys.

Don't want to share keyboards, but mice would be a great idea, so I wonder if I would be able to mix it up a bit.

Sadly I don't have 2 DVI ports, just the 1.

I'm starting to hunt down the KVM switch right now!

    Thanks again.

ahhhh, I just learned there is a difference between Dual Link and Dual DVI.

Dual DVI = 2 DVI ports

Dual Link = 2560 x 1600 res, or rather high resolutions

    I use one of these

its pretty good considering the price.

I did want a DVI/usb KVM, but there mega expensive so i bought a USB switch and the above DVI switch so i can switch between workstation and gaming machine.

I can't really see the point. Monitors are so cheap these days, if your on a really tight budget, buy a 17/19" screen on eBay. Scan have a 23" 1080p monitor for £106.

    http://ncix.com/products/?sku=34183&vpn=CL-KVM-281&manufacture=Syba

    That translates to around £20.

    http://ncix.com/products/?sku=31207&vpn=F1DG102D&manufacture=Belkin

That translates to around £50 with the coupon. But this also supports dual-link over KVM up to 2560x1600, USB, Audio, and a little switch/remote thing.

The monitor is a 30" Dell. I don't have desk space for another 30" ... well I could but then I would have neck ache having to twist slightly to use whichever one I'm using at the time. I was tempted to get a 24" Dell to go with my other computer, but in all fairness why waste a perfectly good 30"?

When I'm working on one I don't game on the other so an extra 30" would be a waste.

Hmm, I checked Froogle for this product in the UK and Scan actually has one, but ... this is the link:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=952504&source=froogle

    And they state:

    • Supports high video resolutions up to 2048x1536

    Will be phoning them today!

No worries, although at the same time I feel like saying cheeky bast***! :eyebrow:

Thing is, if the KVM only goes to 2048 resolution then it's no good for me anyways, I definitely need 2560 res. Have emailed Belkin to confirm specs, however even on their site it says 2048 res ... we shall see.

Acording to the link in Jasio's post the belkin one does support 2560x1600 (dual link) yet scan say's not, Worth checking out I have known scan to be wrong . Also I saw this one the scan site scan's No LN24353 which seems to do much higher res.

Please note that Scan has the F1DG102DUK while NCIX has the F1DG102D.

    The main differences?

    - The UK gets shafted with a high price tag.
    - 2 year warrant UK vs. 3 years North America.
    - Up to 2560 (dual-link) support for resolution vs. 2048.
    - VGA w/ DVI-D adapter vs. straight-through DVI-D (US/Canada).

Unlucky! I ordered the Aten KVM (LN24353) from Scan, looks great from all the specs, photos, went to Atens site and researched it a little. Should be with me on Tuesday. I don't know if Scans standards have slipped since the last time I used them (6 months ago) but I can honestly say I've never had any issues with them at all.
