Ok in febuary i bought a bigger heatsink and it came with a decent 80mm fan. but a few months later i did a volt mod to my mobo so i could run the recommended volts for my AMD 2600+. with the 80mm fan the temps where getting into the mid to high 50c range under load. this worried me so i bought a vantec tornardo. this is a awsome fan and cools alot but at 6000rpm its loud so i put in a Pot. the pot gets hot i am building a fan bus this week. i am also going to build a power router for my fans, so i can take some of the x-connect wires out. i was wondering if i use my old 60mm fan mounted to the side of my heatsink, if it would help maybe drop the temps a tad when i have my tornado turned down at idle. if it might how should i mount it. blowing air in through the front or sucking air and blowing it to the back of my case?

Sorry for the long post :hehe:

edit: atm i run mid to low 40c idle when my pc is in a cool room. it runs high 40's(49c atm) idle in my room becuase its 30c in here :sigh:

Grab a 92mm tornado and 7v it,will be more then enuff,i dont keep up with air or water cooling much but back when i did that was a good combo with any hsf.

*sigh* why is it that if someone asks a question their question never gets answered! i have a decent heatsink! i am not paying 40 dollars for one. i dont want to spend anymore money for perfromance parts on my damn pc! i just wanted to know if i took a fan i have laying around if it would maybe drop my temps a few degree. when i run my 80mm tornado at 6000rpms and my room is cool i have hit high 30s but i dont want to run it at that all the god damn time. it sounds like a jet is taking off in my ****ing room!

my plan was oc my pc and i did but after it got hot here where i live i had to go back to defualt beucase its too hot in my house atm! the reason i dont want to spend alot more money on my rig is because i want to save up to build a water cooled rig this winter. *slams head on desk*

Adding another fan will most probably not do anything or very little at all

    Dude, chill.
Running a 60mm along side the heatsink as an extra, isnt really a good idea.

If you can't spend any money, I can't honestly think of anything you can do if noise is an issue, and its too hot for your tastes when 7v'd.

You say it runs 49c Idle, whats it running load? And is that with the tornado on full blast?

its topping out at 51c at load. and no the tornado is at about 3500rpm atm. i am swaping the pot out with a custom fanbus. only reason i am running warm atm is becuase of my room being warm.

you would think 4 case fans, a aftermarket heatsink, and a vantec tornado mounted on the heatsink would keep my temps down.

ok i found my old digital temp reader and stuck the one end in my case and the over in my room.

    Case temp - 34.1c
    Room temp - 28.8c
    Cpu Idle temp - 49c
    cpu load temp - 51c

Now i know when i got my new fan originally i was running alot cooler temps. this could have been becuase it was 4c out and not 35c. Since my room is the most south east room in the house it gets warm. Should i move my pc to my basement, where it was originally when i got it over a year ago? it is 18c down there.

I also have a question. if i run a vent from my side intake fan to my cpu fan would this decrease my temps at all?

There's really not much you can do. You could try running the comp with the side of the case off or make a duct as you mentioned to try to get a few degrees cooler and ride it out till you go to water. Your original idea of adding the 60mm to the side will most likely worsen the situation.

ok thanks. i have a feeling if i take my pc to my basement it will drop temps by almost 10c at the cpu but having it down there can become a inconvience. :( i guess i have to do what i have to do.

you put artic silver on the base and on the cpu?

you might have too much artic silver, causing a rise in temps

Here's what I think you should do:

    1. Apply a small smear of Artic Silver to the base.
    2. Put your tornado fan over the heatsink @ 7V or controlled with your fanbus.
    3. Buy or make a air duct that pulls cold air from outside your case by your tornado.
    4. If these steps don't get the results you require, then either a better heatsink is required or some other extreme cooling method (Water).
    Hope this helps!

Does your computer crash at 51c full load?

    Yes? you have a problem

No? Then what are you complaining about? If the PC runs stabily then its not too hot. Why do you think you need lower temps?

good new. i found my old pci slot fan. since i have a opening above my graphics card i put it there and its sucking the warm air off my cpu. this droped me from 49c to 46 at idle :p

yeah i dont crash at 51, hell before i upgraded my cooling i didnt crash at 60. thing is i cant oc with my temps that high :(

edit: holly crap! i think i might have sound my source of heat! my PSUI(ultra x-connect) is heating my hole case. i am going to take it appart and make sure the fans are working. think i should replace the fans with higher CFM fans?
