Ok i have got two old pc's that i am gonna take the good things out of and put together to get a half way decent mp3 player. Also i am gonna use the case to mod and get the hang of things. So what I am wondering is if there is anything that would be wrong with having 2 PSU's in a case. I wold have one on top of the other. One would run lighting and other things in the case and the other would run the computer. So would this work ok or is there anything that would cause trouble. Also would i need to power switches, one for each PSU.
Theres no problem with two PSUs. A lot of people have two, one for their actual computer and the rest for their lighting and other fancy features. Theres an article somewhere on multiple PSUs... Can't seem to find it, anyone know the link?
Ok thanks for the info. I will install that after i finish making my hardrive racks. Well since i am not sure about this might as well ask. If i have the bottom of my hardrive on metal it wont hurt it any, or should i put somethingto stop the contact of it with the metal.
Ok thanks for the help now i just have to finish the first rack and make another then put in the psu and finally paint the whole thing.
And it works http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage.asp?id_=2175148 http://www.freewebs.com/asche/hookup2psuandmore.htm
A plethora of sites have it. Its just way too hard studying concepts of infinity and theories thereof AND finding the an article on dual-PSUs .
A normal system only requires about 300-400W. Systems with multiple HDD's, multiple disk drives and such obiously require more. If you have quite a lot of lights (LEDs, CCFLs, etc...) and other visual effects its better (in my opinion) to use two PSUs. Of course its really up to you.
I didn't do the maths but in my case (i like light stuff) i tought why risk it, better use 1 for the important stuff hdd's cpu mobo and another one for lights and mods, you never know. in any case i'd rather have 2 cold ones than a overloaded one
I am having 2 in my latest mod I am working on I am converting an at case to atx and the powersupply cassing in it was massive So I am going to put an atx 300w poowersupply and an at 500 wat powersuply ans just have the at switch on using a relay powerd off the atx.
What you can also do, is try soldering green and black from the two atx connectors together (rather running wires between pins)
The one that runs the installed system is a 250 watt. The other one is a 150 i think. This system is really only gonna be used for a mp3 player and to practice modding on until i get my new computer so would the 150 watt one be good enough to power the extra stuff like lighting. Also would it be at all possible to wire up christmas lights to a molex connector cause that would be cool.
Not necissarily low voltage out door ones are usuly six - 12 volts but they arnt usuly coloured and they look poo.
