A GTX 295 for less monies Wait I didn't see the 2g bit. I'd stake my money on the 4870 crossfire, purely because there are two cores. Also because 2GB for one GPU is overkill, especially that card.
Gtx 295 is not less $529.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130504 2 of them $329.98 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150395 $304.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130476 so it 200 some less....
would it not just be simpler to buy 1 4870x2? Also it depends on the resolution your running at too. If you are going for the 4870x2 vs the 275, then go for the 4870x2, but if you are going for the two normal 4870's in crossfire, then I think that there is not that much in the comparison to be honest, because of the way the 275 is built (448 bit memory bus controller, GDDR3 (double pumped)) it would be quite a close call between the the set ups. And finally the 295 is way more than the both the 275 and the 4870x2, I think its about £350 at the moment. Gaz
You can get 2 normal 4870's as long as you have a crossfire motherboard, but it might work out a bit cheaper to get 1 4870x2, which will give you matched performance if not better, and you don't have to worry about more cables and space in your case.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131116 it's 100$ more and yes motherboard will be crossfire so it would be best to get the two of same cards?
Yeah sorry you are right, on Scan there is a difference of £10 lol, but still a saving. Personally I would go for a 4870x2, and then maybe sometime down the road get another one if I had the money, but there is no reason why you can't do the set up you describe. Good luck, happy gaming
No, No, No and No. Get the 4870X2 everytime, it gives better perfomance than the two single cards. Over here the X2 is only £40 more expensive than two comparible 4870's from scan.co.uk Also its been a while since I looked at the 4870s price for my above post. So yeh I defo wouldn't go with a 295 in this case!!!!
This has been done to death before...Put simply; The 4870X2 is less money, less cables, less heat, less bandwidth and more room in your case...It's a no brainer really...
agreed that over here the 4870x2 definately the best option, but with the links he gave me over in the US its quite a lot more expensive. Also agreed, don't go for the 295 unless you have the money to burn, as with the price to performance ratio its not worth it.
Maybe bad every one also from Canada so it cost alot more extra like 60$ dam http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150349
Basically the answer is as always go with what you can afford, 2 4870's in crossfire will be fine (good performance), but if you can afford it go for the 4870x2 (better performance). Gaz
Im building an i7 i could afford it if i went down to quad cpu but i rather not since it will be a hassle later on.
ah right, fair enough then , with a i7 core and 2 4870's you will have a good enough system anyway really
I don't even know how to install a cpu or do mother board all i have done is install new gpu and psu so i have no real exp but ill get it.
That is not entirely true. http://xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/radeon-hd4870-crossfire.html The difference between them is marginal. Go with whichever is cheapest is what i'll recommend. They're all gonna do monstrously well. just make sure you've goot good cooling.
