    Yes exactly as RTT sed.

I'm waiting for my money from my summerjob to order one aswell! :D
Although the backlight leakage is alot worse then on the Apple display, the numerous more options on the dell make it alot more attractive (not to mention the price)

    Good luck with your purchase!
    Widescreen rox!

    Hi,

Just ordered my Dell 2005FPW 20" Widescreen TFT monitor!
Can't wait for it to get here!

    Just to clear things up.
the 20" Apple and the 2005FPW, have the same model/make of SCREEN. This doesn't mean its exactly the same screen.. but it come spretty close. BUT the backlight is completely different and so are the electronics and casing.

I've been bouth monitors in real life and tested them for backlight leakage and the Apple is a higher quality monitor. But even though the dell may have some backlight leakage (wont bother most people). It still offers alot more functions then the Apple display, wich make it a more attractive deal. Then there is offcourse the price difference.

But I wouldn't call Apple a "Scam company" as woof82 is claiming. Other company's that have a 20" widescreen tft monitor are not cheaper then apple. Dell is the only one that has such a "low" price.

    So do your research woof82.

Apple screen is definatly a bit better on quality, but it lacks on functions compared to the Dell. (functions mosts users won't need)

    This monitor is awesome. :baby:

iMovie editing is sooooo much easier when you're not constrained to a 14" tft... ;)

One bugbear though. I have the mac mini on DVI, and my Powerbook on VGA. When I switch inputs to go dual screen on the PB, the native res of the Dell monitor seems to be 'off', in which I mean that at 1680 by 1050, the powerbook feed doesn't fill the entire panel.

The refresh rate on the display setup on the powerbook reads 59.9Mhz, rather than 60Mhz - so I guess that is the problem, but Tiger won't allow me to change the refresh rate (all other options are greyed out).

Oh - and one other thing - PinP and PbyP doesn't work with DVI and VGA, it has to be a combo of VGA + SVid or Composite, or DVI + SVid or Composite.

But what am I complaining about? The price I paid for it, this thing's a steal. :hip:

I'm aware that you cant use vga + dvi with pinp and pbyp. But don't really need that. I just want to beable to switch between powerbook and desktop PC.

I was thinking about connecting the PC with VGA and the powerbook with DVI. It is strange that the powerbook won't fill the dell completely though.. its the same resolution/size as the apple monitor.

Try the DVI input for your Powerbook, maybe that will work better.

How did you pay then? (If you don't mind me asking)
I paid 543€, wich isn't that much compared to competing brands.. but its still alot of money for a monitor.

Thanks for your thoughts on the monitor!

I've just had a look mate - they only got a couple of laptops up for sale at the moment. You could try direct on that link Gordy posted up.

IIRC, when they where on the 24" monitors where going for around £450-500

Well, I've just got an email, they're offering me the 2405FPW refurbished for £540. Still £150 cheaper than new, but:

I do note the "no dell warranty" :eyebrow:
    Although "no dead pixels" :hip:

If they were offering them for £450-500, thats a steal :naughty:

The 24" is so tempting me now, especially as they're £700 new....
    Opinions?

Edit: They've got the 2405FPW on starting at £425 on eBay... Hm....

They often have them cheaper on ebay for some reason. I don't know how many 2405fpw's they have. There must be a fair few that were returned hehe :)

I have aswell found the 20"-ers alot cheaper on ebay and other. But they still ask alot of money for something that comes without a warranty.

I bought my 17" Acer 2 years ago for 200€ (retail price was 450€ then). It did came without warranty and a 'don't take this to the store' warning. But for that price, it was a steal. I still use it today!

700€ is alot to spend on something that comes without a warranty. But the 24" is being sold in belgium for 1300€, so thats olmost double. (It was 1700€ a few months ago)

    Good luck with your choice.
