    Mission
    to sort out a big size HDD to back stuff up

    so... i could buy a pricy external hard drive, which would connect to 1a pc
    by firewire or USB - not very networkable, or an ethernet external hdd which
    is even costlier...

    so, because there are at least 8 pooter carcases littering the residence a
    high level executive decision making process was undertaken whereby
    implementation of a new box was proposed

    * step 1 i scored an internal HD on TCR & set up a system in an old
    case with extra twinkling lights lights and all components
    * step 2 was to find a box - thankew very much to the nice antique
    shop down the road who found a very appropriate solution in their backyard &
    donated gratis, saving me cash to spend in Argos on a $30 'Challenge
    Extreme' rotary tool, yes pleez

    the story continues...............

    more...
    minor technical hitch that the HD with windoze packed up on sunday -
    possibly a foofoo issue...
    replaced it, reinstalled windzzz & bolted all together last night, & him FLY

    i reversed the big fan - it have guards on the inside to stop wires getting
    stuck... altho as soon as davey checked it there was a guddaguddagudda sound
    as an important yellow cable made a bid for freedom...

    the door.... closes neatly !!! soon as i bolted in the CD it was FINE- tho i
    had to fiddle about with the floppy a lot cos the power cable was short!

    i fixed the bracketage on the HDD so i could bolt everything together & drop
    them in last of all ....

    more pichas to come of everything nestling together cosily

    still to do:

    * drill the front for twinking lights (mebbie a nice perspex panel or
    s'thing?) & fix the buttons somewhere

    * a lock for the door so it can be picked up by the handle...

    * perhaps a lick of varnish?

    specs:

    * 1x 200GB HDD (£129)

    * 1x 3GB HD (windozzz)

    * 1 Gig AMD Processor &

    * Shuttle motherbd FV24 = 190x200mm (donated by joe)

    * 256MB RAM

    * DVD Playa (donated by kate & grace)

    * 3 x twinkling lights Red, Gold, Green

    * on/off & hard reset switch

    * power supply 150V?

    * many 3mm & 4mm nuts & bolts & rubber washers

    * £30 imitation dremel from argos, yes-i

    * some proper blades for the cutter - cos the cheap ones were crap £10

    * ethi sticker from majestical lips = 75p

    * case = antique french archive boite (donated by linda from blue,chl)

    * inspiration & health and safety advice & monitoring of davey, doob,
    al and steve

    * foofoo

    all created without recourse to cm or mm as no ruler or tape measure was available...

    < posted from the box itself ! any advise from experiened modders appreciated - this is mk 1 mebbie mk2 is gonna be out of real wood>

    Hupdate

    so...i jus put some holes in the front for twinkling lights, (pics sooncome) i've been contemplating & meditating about how to put in a lock, so i can pick the thing up by the handle without it popping open - that 200GB is heavy - i don't rilly want to put much more holes in the case... so, still working on that un

    thanX for feedback,
    altho i kinda like the scuffed up look (it was a free case after all) i reckon a lick of varnish will make it look right nice

    what is this dremel of which you speak anyway???
