I'm a bit saddened to see this hasn't been released yet as time gets close to Xmas, people need this information before parting with their hard earned cash! Also, how about an extra round up of alternatives for those among us who aren't so keen on the old Xmas pies? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Custom PC and bit-tech are separate entities these days; you won't see any content from CPC repeated on bit-tech, nor vice-versa. That was one of the biggest complaints made when Dennis knocked the dedicated CPC website on the head and merged it with bit-tech, and was quickly abandoned in the face of reader feedback. In short: you want to know what mince pies to buy? Then you're going to need a copy of Custom PC.
Sorry what??? The Mince-Pie test was always a bit-tech thing, almost sure of it, Disapproving for something so trivial. Sam
Pretty sure it was, been around here for over a decade now and without fail every year i look forward to the mega test, and im not even that keen on mince pies (hence the request for tasty alternatives). Sad times.
We never did a mince pie megatest during my tenure as editor. We did do a couple of cheesecake supertests, though.
You might both be sure, but you're also both mistaken: the Mince Pie Megatest was introduced in Custom PC in 2004. It remained a Custom PC exclusive until 2009, when the first joint CPC and bit-tech Mince Pie Megatest was published. This continued in 2010 and 2011 before it went back to being a Custom PC exclusive - a direct result of readers stating that they were going to cancel their subscriptions "'cos what's the point of paying when I can wait a week and read stuff for free on bit-tech?" Granted, they were talking about reviews and features rather than a jokey Christmas-themed novelty group test, but it was that feedback that led to Dennis Publishing making a conscious decision to split the ties betwix the two publications.
You are indeed right and I stand corrected, I understand the reasoning behind it it's just a shame as it brought a nice bit of festivity to BT Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
ah the annual 'how bad are the Duchy Originals pies this year?' test... so... where's the cheescake group-test?
Bah! Humbug. We've got a few Christmassy themed bits of content coming up and I'm talking to Ben now about maybe letting non-Custom PC readers take a look at the mince pie test. Keep you posted.
It's been like that for the last 10 years+, it's very common in magazine publishing. As far as the Mince Pie Megatest goes, I'd leave it in the mag - it's premium content, make em pay for it! Sez me, who has just cancelled his sub...
That explains why I'm still buying the 2011 recommendations... I really should buy Custom PC at Christmas if that is where it is.
