Windows 2142 Demo - Initial Thoughts

Redownloaded today and it worked fine, absolutely awesome game.

Can't wait!

man theres way to much bad press for this game i only found out about bf2 from mi friend a month after it came out did that have this mnuch peopl slating it causs every where i go thers some one saying its rubbish gamespot xfire ign everywhere i love bf2 but i have to admit wher i first saw a vid for 2142 it did look simlar to bf2 just wid a new skin but isn't that just cuass they used same game engin

 

Oh yeah, the game's pretty good, EXCEPT FOR THE GOD DAMN CRASH-TO-DESKTOPS. Seriously though, I get a crash-to-desktop within a minute of gameplay. I'm thinking it's no doubt my video card being below the minimum requirements, but I have no way of telling because they haven't released minimum requirements for Battlefield 2142 yet.

HOWEVER! BF2 and BF2142 use the same engine, so I wouldn't imagine that the minimum requirements would have changed that much.

Do you have a dual core processor? Don't know about the demo but the beta would crash out once you'd joined a server unless you set the the bf2142.exe process to only use one core.

 

I keep getting stuck at "contacting EA Master Server."

 

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Demo\Support\readme.txt begs to differ.

Might want to have a look over the readme (suitably named since you're supposed to read it.) before having a big old rant there.

ohhhhh lots of problems for you lot, the only problem I had was a direct X error, just needed to update it.
the demo is alright the walker things are a bit daft tho.

Turn off any security software like Peer Guardian and firewalls.

 

I liked it better than BF2, mostly because it runs better on my PC im running a P4 2.8 ghz, a 5200, and 512 of ram. also it takes less time to load than BF2 for me, the mechs were dissapointing, the hover tanks took a little to get used too. titan mode was great, conquest was boring in that map, overall i liked it, better than BF2 performance wise, everything else BF2 is better

 

Fantastic fun (once I managed to get it working). Took some fiddling with router and DirectX to make it run, but it was worth the wait. If they fix the bugs and have a proper release that works, I'll be buying this.

 

as others had.. i had a problem with direct x.. not a bad game... take a while to get use to...

i like titan mode... but i dont... it took ages to bring down via the reactor the titan once all the stuff was done... took like 5 of use with the rockets to do it...

 

You're talking about a DICE game here. They still haven't fixed all the problems with BF2 yet...

 

Oh? How do you do this?

 

press ctrl+alt+del, click on the processes tab, find the bf2142.exe process, right click on it, then select set affinity, then untick one of the CPU cores, click ok and exit task manager.

 

Im still crashing within the first 5mins, i setup my gfx to max and loading went smoothly but the game just crashes to desktop. I did have the DirectX issue and got the Dll file for it but it keeps bloody crashing.

 

Have you got a Dual Core?
