A lot of people had very high hopes for this, but from reading this review, and hearing user feedback, it has most definitely not lived up the hype.

    Shame.

It sounds a bit like the original STALKER (maybe not quite as bad). I'll definitely pick this up once the bugs are worked out though, it sounds brilliant.

I loved the first game i played so much I joined a clan and took part in a ladder.

It too was released with alot of bugs but tripwire always delivered with the patches and listens to the community

Give it a few months I heard they're putting so much time and research into making tanks one takes 6months!

Damn good game imho. Stats are nearly fixed, and the bugs are getting quashed faster than BF3 lot!

For the price this game is a buy!

I'll pick it up when the bugs are ironed out. STALKER had the same issues (all of them except maybe CoP) but they were a brilliant bunch of games anyways.

Battlefield's still in beta though. I think Joe did a column not that long ago about how the term "beta test" is abused by marketing now, but it seems that DICE are actually doing one.

I did. There's also a column in Issue 98 about how bugs affect the game experience.

Finally a review of the game that takes it's current lack of polish into account. Sure it's a superb game when it works but that's an unreliable "when".

Like all PC Multiplayer games these days...wait for the first or second patch before buying...i sure as hell wont be buying Battlefield 3 until the patches start to arrive.

How do the classes affect the game experience?

Do you get teams with too many ineffective classes that destroy the game like a lot of TF2 matches?

No. Basically each class apart from "rifleman" have a player limit, so super specialist classes like anti-tank or marksman are limited to 1 or 2 players. The broader a class is, the more slots it allows as a general rule.

"you only have to read a book such as Antony Beevor’s Stalingrad to have an emotional investment into what’s going on"

This book is a must read for anyone wanting to know about the true horrors of war. You can't help but sympathise for the soldiers of both sides. Couldn't recommend it enough.

"as bullets pound around you" er bullets tend to 'whiz' while it's shells that 'pound'.

I would invest in this but only when someone like Bit-tech declares it to be resonably bug free.

I'd argue that they whiz past, but pound into the floor/cover, which is what you tend to hear. Also, that is the most precise criticism I have ever read of anything I've ever written ;-)

So is Killing Floor 2 next up for tripwire? Not that it needs to be. I still thoroughly enjoy killing Floor. One day I will have all my perks leveled.

I purchased this, and have to say that it has good promise. But right now, I have to leave it aside for when the bugs are ironed out. It is essentially just what I imagined a proper WWII shooter to be like though, so that's good.

I actually managed to get a refund from Steam for this game. It was terrible.

You can point out that despite several patches your system, which meets the recommended specs, still cannot run the game to an acceptable level. That should entitle you a refund into your Steam wallet.

However if it runs fine and you just don't like it then you can't possibly get a refund from them.
