hi guys my 24 pin power supply extension has arrived i plan to sleeve it so i have a neat power cable showing connected to the mobo. The cable is all twisted and i would like to straighten out each wire before sleeving but do i need to know the exact slot each wire came from or is it just the correct colour wire that has to go into each plastic housing? so my top line of wires connector uppermost would read (l-r) orange blue black green 3 x black white 3 x red black can i just unplug and straighten so long as the wires remain in that order? or is each wire different despite being the same colour?? thank you for any help as always vevvo
I can't answer your question but I would personally label each wire as you remove it with a little bit of masking tape and number them.
Unless the wires are of different gauges, you can use any colour anywhere as long as each end is in the same place. A straight extension shouldn't be doing any splitting or joining, so it's purely 1:1.
Usefull pin out drawing, Electricity is clever, but not clever enough to know the colour of a wire just yet
every PSU I have modded has the same pin out for the 24 pin connector BUT that is NOT the case with the PCI-E cables and 4 pin molex connectors since they normally use a different connector on the PSU side. Some silverstone PSUS swap the positive and negative pins from one side of the cable to the other while some silverstones do not. Their 4 pin wire pinout also varies on the PSU plug in side.
The pinouts for a 24-pin extension should be a straight 1-2-1, regardless of the colours of the wires. eg one of the extensions I have only has 3 colours of wire - red, yellow and orange, repeated across the connector.
