    Howdy people

I have a plan to buy the following hardware and substitute it for the rubbish which is currently the core of my computer. Could you advise me as to whether it is a prudent purchase or whether I should choose something different?

    Intel Core i5 2500k
    Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600 mhz 2x4gb

I need the Z68 motherboard for the extra video outputs as I run 1x U2410 and 1x BenQ W1000+ PJ at the moment and with my current GFX (4850 1gig) I do not have any extra output options for an extra screen.

I am also planning on buying a used H50 here in Denmark and then clocking my 2500k to 4.8-5 ghz.

Looks like excellent choices. 2500K overclocked is bang-for buck winner by a large margin at the moment, and the gigabyte and kingston stuff are both solid performers, they won't let you down.

If anything, i'd try to go for the H70 at that overclock. The H50 tends to run very hot after prolonged use.

Even if I use push/pull? Not that I care much for H50 or H70, but 30£ saved is 30£ saved.

Yes, even with push/pull. The rad is just too small to move more then 80-90W over a prolonged time, allowing the water to slowly become warmer. With the H70 you have more surface area.

Will you be running it at full tilt all the time?

As I have a Gelid Tranquillo sitting here on my 2600k and it holds it at 60 degrees whilst running at 4.5Ghz with 1.32V going through it.

I only drop about 2 degrees by putting on a H70 with push pull AP-14's.

I drop another 5 degrees by cutting up the loop and adding in a res.

And this is whilst doing folding at home.

So unless you are doing this, a decent air cooler like the Gelid will do perfectly. Also helps if you have a decent case.

hasn't the h70 been replaced by the h80, the h80 has fan profiles programed into it so it easy to setup for your requirements.

I have a Lian Li A05FN. I might get the H80 then or the Gelid.. Or a custom loop.. Have to decide with myself whether I want to splurge on that though :-/
