Not exactly comparing like with like though is it, in terms of 'entertainment product'

    $60 for a game

$10 for a cinema ticket, book, CD, DVD.

I don't see why not. They all offer entertainment hours for a cost. The difference is expansive games like GTA can give you more hours for your money then a movie or book and feel more immersive.

Yeah, c'mon editors - get your game on and put "million" in there where it's meant to be!

I know way more people that read books, listen to music, and go to the movies than I know gamers inclined to play GTA...then again, I work with a bunch of middle-aged people, so maybe that's part of it.

But on what planet are new hardcover books or new-release DVDs $10? Yeah, GTA costs more than any of those, but the scale's a bit smaller than you describe, I think.

£18.99 normally for a new hardback. £15 for a DVD and £18 for a blu-ray. £42 for a video game by the looks of it.

The last Harry Potter sold 15 million copies in 24 hours... There was a massive discount in supermarkets but as a loss leader, they would presumably however have paid the distributor/wholesaler the same as everyone else (near enough give or take bulk discounts). That is more copies than day 1 GTA V sales. It just doesn't generate as much cash.

Still impressive none the less and a great sign for adult gaming.
