    So even without the SATA 6Gbps barrier we are still not able to saturate the 1GBps bandwidth from PCI-E 2.0 x 2. Looks like we really need a major leap again from the controller.

    they are M.2 cards or half height M.2 , which is the follow on from msata and uses 4 pcie lanes for 1 6gbt interface slot.

    I have always read that on-board Marvell controllers suck when compared to Intel, is that only certain models of Marvell controllers or are all of them pretty bad ?

    Not that any on-board solution can exceed the 600MB/s ceiling of SATA 3, but with ASUS demonstrating a Z87-Deluxe/SATA Express motherboard at CES are we going to find cards like these Plextor outdated in 6 months?

    the first marvell controllers for motherboards were pants the Marvell 88SE9128 , but nowadays they are much better.


    for ssd`s marvell have been quite good
