Hi all, First time poster, long time viewer. Interested in your thoughts on 27 inch Monitors. I am currently building a gaming rig, and I was thinking about purchasing a ASUS VE278Q 27-Inch LED Monitor. Would be primarily used for gaming. Thanks in advance for the good or bad advice!
Yeah, I'd like a U2711 too but at £660 on that very special offer, it's still £400 more than the Asus. I'm sure it's worth the money but it still a LOT of money.
It's a pretty good monitor, used to have one on the family computer a little while back. Obviously the image quality isn't as crisp as an IPS panel, but that's no surprise really. Works really well for gaming, though the family only really played Sims and Street Fighter IV so I can't say if there's any ghosting on a fast paced FPS/Racing game. The only negative I found is on the default settings it was a bit bright, looking at a website with a white background hurt my eyes a little... so if you get that monitor, you might want to turn the brightness down a little. Oh and buttons on the bottom of a monitor really bug me, which is why I eventually replaced it. :\ Edit: Almost forgot, ours had a very slight amount of backlight bleed at the bottom edge but it was an acceptable amount so nothing too serious.
So you think going down to a Dell Ultrasharp U2410 would be a better buy overall versus a non IPS panel 27 inch?
D'oh! Apologies everyone - the offer has ended. It was £450 on sale previously iirc. I was this close to getting another one, but then I realised having two was a waste, and having three was ridiculous so I left it. TSB
Am I better off going with a 24in IPS panel monitor versus a non IPS 27 inch monitor..I dont play alot of fast paced games..I am using the monitor primarily for WoW.
If your budget can't stretch to an IPS display and you want a large screen, get the HannsG 28" - 1920x1200 and not a bad monitor by any means - I had mine for nearly 2 years and loved it.
Me too survived one international car move and one international postage too! It now serves as a PS3/XBOX screen.
Another vote for the Hanns.G 28" I've had it 2 years and it's just... Well, for price there's nothing better. That fact it even goes above 1080 is a bonus.
Which Hanns. G 28"? HZ281HPB 28" $279.99 HH281HPB 28" $310.00 HG281DPB 28" $399.99 HG281DJB 28" $249.99 Thanks for the input.
27inch at 1080p, is simply stupid. Pixels are too big, and distance between each pixels is too large. text is very sharp, image isn't very sharp (unless you plan to use the computer, all the time, far away). you want a higher resolution one (which does mean more GPU power), or get a 23inch monitor (or 24inch for a 16:10 aspect ratio). Also read this, to know what you are getting, and the technologies out there. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showpost.php?p=2776290&postcount=13
A few of us debated this a while ago in another thread and the conclusion is that "good" pixel pitch is entirely subjective; I heartily disagree that 1080p @ 27" is stupid, because I've played several games at 1080p on both a 28" and a 40" screen and it looks great (in my opinion). Some people want a big display even if it means a compromise in image quality; given £235 to spend on a monitor for gaming, I'd sooner get a 28" TN than a 23" IPS...I did it before, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Sure, no problem. You do what you want. if you like using washed out, short view angle, flat colors provided by a TN panel, be my guess. I am not going to deny that there is a large market for such screen. If you like them, then good! That is all that it maters. We all have our different setups, and preferences. Pixel pitch is the distance between pixels, its means: how sharp the text will be. Closer the better. And smaller the pixels, the better. Example: I don't understand how this can be subjective? You are seriously telling me that the screen on the left is better than the one on the right, on the simple example above? 'cause that is what subjective means. For a TV, I don't care... because you are sitting far away. A distance large enough that you don't see any problem. But at a distance of a chair to desk, that's a different story. That is why I was just informing the Furore about this, to know what to expect. If he plans to use the monitor far away, then I am going to suggest getting a TV instead of similar size, to be another choice (and potentially cheaper, and have multiple inputs for game consoles, for example).
You misread my post - I never said bigger pixel pitch is better; in fact I stated very clearly that it isn't... ...all I was pointing out is that some people are prepared to forego the IQ in favour of raw screen size, which I have done in the past and would do agian. The only reason I have IPS monitors is because I'm a professional photographer; for gaming I'd much rather size than playing games that would...print well(?). Not debating for a second that TN is good compared to IPS; I'm just saying that TN really isn't crap like it's made out to be - it's perfectly fine for gaming, especially with LED backlighting and improved contrast.
