Shame Steam won't remove 99% of the shite on Greenlight. I'm convinced most the games that get greenlit are as a result of 'ironic' voting.

Yea, heaven forbid we allow adults to make their own choices with regards to what media they consume.
Who, or what exactly is a "gamer" ?

It will be released either way so no point getting your knickers in a twist. The level of violence looks no worse than a GTA game to me!

I don't usually bother with content-free flamebaits, but I'm making an exception with you this time. You really think people and especially politicians looking to make quick publicity payday by claiming a correlation between videogame and real life violence really need more ammunition for their cause? Seriously, if you haven't already, go watch the trailer. It sounds like it's written by some sex-starved, basement-dwelling emo teenager. The makers even gloat over the fact the game has no other inherent purpose than killing civilians and innocent bystanders. That's just sick, plain and simple.

After all, didn't your politicians just ban squirting, spanking and fisting, to a great amusement of the rest of the world? That's a great track record for making sensible decisions governing the life of grown-up people.

    Yeah, right.

Sick according to whose standards, yours, mine, the government of the day ?

The good thing about being an adult is that if someone or a politicians looking to make quick publicity payday claims there is a correlation between videogame and real life violence we can use facts to show those are baseless claims, and that they are scaremongering.

Just goes to show that political correctness has gone mad, given half the chance most people like nothing more than telling others what they can and can't do.

No, seriously who, or what exactly is a "gamer" ?

It's not even political correctness, since they also banned female orgasms. It's just Cameron being a colossal c*** as usual.

I get so frustrated when I see anybody quote GTA as such a controversial title and thus compare crap like this to it. The biggest difference between a game like Hatred and GTA is the intent. GTA gives you the sandbox and ability to cause mass carnage and death, but it isn't the primary objective. You have a story, and that may end up with you causing a gang war or killing a load of people, but that's no different to any other game. Hatred is all in the title, the motive is just hatred and killing seemingly innocent people for no real reason. It's a click bait title designed to stir and cause controversy, no other reason, and it's working. If the game is banned, it becomes notorious, if the game is released, it becomes notorious. Either way the devs win and the gaming industry as a whole suffers.

It's no different to if somebody published a high profile movie on the same topic or a book, only movies are harder to access to begin with and books are a smaller, older user base. If games like Hatred could only be bought in a bricks and mortar store, then things might be a little more balanced IMO. It wouldn't stop things, but it would help somewhat.

heh, I like the part about us showing facts to politicians (and to the public for that matter) ... as if that's going to change their opinion on anything

Our Beloved Government has issued an edict on what types of pornography it is now illegal to produce/distribute in the UK. Newly-banned content: Spanking; Caning; Aggressive whipping; Penetration by any object "associated with violence"; Physical or verbal abuse (regardless of if consensual); Urolagnia (known as "water sports"); Female ejaculation; Strangulation; Facesitting; Fisting (if all knuckles are inserted).

Note that some of these are not like the others. Spanking appears in the same list as (consensual) physical abuse, which is odd. Verbal abuse is particularly stark: the new law makes it legal to call a woman a "dirty wench" (phrased carefully for family friendliness on this 'ere forum) in the context of violence during an action film, but not to utter the same phrase in the context of sex during a porn film. The most obviously objectionable entry, mind: female ejaculation. It's still legal to show male ejaculation in UK porn (rated at the highest level, mind: the Mull of Kintyre rule still applies to 18-and-below ratings), but not female ejaculation. Apparently women aren't allowed to enjoy themselves during sex, but should simply lie back and think of England.

As you might imagine, there have been some (genuinely amusing) protests about this.
