availabilty of fibreoptics in Malaysia OK, this is a bit sneaky I know, but..... Do you know anyone with one of those Fibreoptic Christmas Trees/Spaceship Lamps/Flowers in a case?.... I think you might guess where this is headed! Whilst no-one is looking, "acquire" 1 or 2 strands of Fibreoptic . No-one will miss one or two!!!! Just don`t get greedy (not that I`ve EVER tried this and found out that they DO work or anything)....... FLY. Do you know if there is a 2mm thick fibre cored cable? I have some fine multistrand & 1mm single core, neither of which are quite striking enough for the fanbus Mod I`m (almost) doing ATM. I might just have to stick the 3mm blue LED`s in the knob.
@ Fly Whats that??? Got any picture on it Oh yeah BTW I'm using IBM 40.9Gb 60GXP 7200rpm and a Quantum 6.4CX 5400rpm
ERM...NO. Purely a test scenario.I haven`t completed a thing yet, but if you saw my post in the question about rheobus , I have also drilled up the centre of the shaft of the stat to allow a wire thru` to supply either a fibreoptic or LED in the knob. If it all comes together & looks halfway decent I will post pics, If not I will never darken the bit-tech doorstep again.(I might post my fan mod pic tomorrow!)
HHMMM......got Me thinking now. If i Use the white LED,shining thru` the fibreoptic Flowers motorized colourwheel, fibreopticked(word?) to the Fanbus knobs, it should look psychedelically GrOoVy,Baby YeAH MAN!
LCD temp ChEaP oh yeah Fly  you will be happy to see that you can get cheap LCD temp for ur comp. @RM45.00 in Malaysia so US will be around...... US$ 11.84 is it cheap???or not? dont know
BTW thanks nikbj68 I just got my new drill Black & Decker KR510RE (name only black but the drill is not black )..... going to mod my casing ...first mod... next week cant find a dremel...... at my place..... so use the drill.....
The Maplin 2mm f/o light guide is only 1mm core and I looked at a lamp (hands in pockets, honest) and they're even thinner (but you get miles for a fiver, plus a few leds, a motor and a halogen bulb). I've seen perspex rod in thin sizes, that could be used in some cases.
I'm not sure the stuff on Xmas trees and stuff is actually anywhere near as good at passing light. I have "FO" tree and the line seems to be more like fishing wire than lightguide!!!!
Ive been doing some checking into this and so far Ive only heard back from maxtor and they say that they dont have any pin configuration or wiring for an LED activity light on any of their drives. If I do find anything on any of the other drives Ill let you know. Id like to do the same thing myself
