I currently have my PC set up with a Sapphire HD 5770 FleX GPU with 4 monitors running: DVI-D, DVI-I, Display Port & HDMI.

This all works fine but I now want to connect my TV by HDMI.

Can I just buy any 2nd graphics card or does it have to be another HD 5770 FleX? Or just a matching spec one?...

I know for definite that a second HD 5770 FleX (not connected in Crossfire) would allow 6 monitors and possibly even 8 but I can't find them being sold any where now as I think it has been replaced by the 6770 FleX.

Any card should work for simple display use....

    IMHO

    Great thanks for the reply.

So if I were to get a lower spec (cheaper!) card it wouldn't act as a bottle neck to the first card in any way?

As long as it's the same chip it should work. And If I remember correctly the 6770 can crossfire with the HD5770.

Mind you running all of those monitors probably would result in abysmal 3d performance.

Won't need to be the same chip or even the same manufacturer. Any graphics card would do just to get more outputs. If he was crossfiring it would have to be from the same series so 57xx. A 6770, although uses the same chip wouldn't work as far as I know as they're technically from different series.

If you have intergrated graphics you could use that, but as long as you don't want to display 1 image over all 5 monitors (such as a game) then any graphics card that supports 1080p will do fine.

Whoops. I thought he wanted to do some eyefinity. Consider that part of my post irrelevant. If you wanted more displays, you technically could just get a bunch of cheap GPUs and populate the slots. But yes a Flex would work admirably too as a way to power a bunch of monitors.

That's brilliant, thanks all for the help.

I won't be using Crossfire and isn't for gaming but simply to get 1 additional HDMI output so I shall go and look for a nice and cheap GPU!

    No reason why it shouldn't.
