I only fear your fingerprints. Doug - don't you find that USB hard drives attached through a hub slows them down too much? As far as I'm concerned, externals tend to be slow enough as it is.
not really, I have one USB drive connected directly (the primary) and the secondary one is used to back that up
I bought a 500gb WD MyBook when it hit the market. I've moved state to state several times and it still works fine.
Well it arrived today, very quiet drive, quite impressed. One question, when i use safely remove hardware and it powers down, can I then just remove the power cable? Only have 4 sockets in room and the one i'm using for the mybook I also use for chargers.
the WD mybooks are built pretty well, Ive opened up one and upgraded it to 500gig (got the empty casing from a friend) and there is a good amount of shock protection built in. I normally like seagate drives, more then I like WD, but I dont have any problems with WD like most other manufacturers. But the seagate externals have the non-removable base (at least the one my friend bought...) and it makes it hard to throw a bunch of them on a shelf like you could the mybook's.
