Where's the cheapest place to get half decent 3/8" from in the UK - just wondering whether it can be gotten from places other than extreme PC cooling stores?
if you can find someone with an account, try RS Compnents, they are trade only, Maplins do some watercooling kit, try them for tubing too. B&Q also maybe and fish tank places, they ahve water pumps, might find summat, you never know
Cheers mate - B&Q only have crappy 10mm PVC or 1/2" PVC. The place I work buys a stack of stuff of RS so I might try and see if they do it.... otherwise I guess it means paying through the nose for it at some online store
Hi jetset - I bought a load of Tygon for my rig, and a little bit of bog standard PVC tubing for comparison. IMHO the only stuff to get is the Tygon - it's SO much better than PVC. I know it's more expensive, but believe me it's worth it. It's easier to fit, doesn't kink, looks better, hell it even FEELS better! P.S. I've finished my rig at long last - will have to post some piccies when I get somewhere to host them. Olly
Olly if you mail me the pics I'll happily host them on my web space for you... alternatively there are a couple of people doing free hosting on here for piccies for BiT.... hang on and i'll get you a link... here you go this is hks' - www.publicgallery.net I think quack runs one too.... Did you sort out the quick release connectors? Get those piccies up, I'm dying to see
Jetset - Thanks for the offer, but you've just motivated me to get of my backside and register the 50Mb of web space I get with my Pipex dsl subscription! I will definately post the piccies as soon as poss. but I've got a busy couple of weeks coming up so I wouldn't hold your breath ... Cheers, Olly
Olly it's looking good! Where's you get your quick release fittings in the end? Also did you make the watercooling box yourself? A couple more photos of that (maybe it innards) would be cool! I'm thinking about building something like that myself...
Jetset - To be honest I looked at so many web-site for the bulkhead connectors, I can't remember where I got them from in the end ('though I can dig out the receipt if you're interested). I can tell you that they're made by CPC, and they were far too expensive , but are a really good bit of kit. The watercooling box is just a cheap pc case that I sanded back to the steel with an orbital sander. I then made up a new faceplate out of 1.6mm sheet aluminium and bolted it on the front. (There was no way I was going to fit all that gear in my Coolermaster 201!) I promise to post some more pics of the case when I get a chance, but it might not be for a while.... Olly
That's a good idea actually - I might try and look for a cheap midi/mini tower and do the same sort of thing... One thing I was wondering though is how come you're using 2 res'?
Jetset - errrr ... mmmmm ... well actually I'm just using two res's 'cos I thought they looked good (sheepish grin)
Fair enough I don't know if you've posted this anywhere else but what sort of temps are you getting? Also are you using a reducer to attach the tubing to the aquatube or have you got a mixture of tubing sizes? Is it nice and quiet, what fans are you running? Sorry for all the questions, just curious
jestset - sorry 'bout the slow reply, but I've been on me hols ... Temps are nothing to write home about - 36 deg C under load, but that's with 2 low noise (21Db) Papst fans running at 7v. If I cranked the fans up a bit I guess I might shave a degree or two of that, but the whole reason for watercooling my rig in the first place was to make things quieter, so I don't really want to do that. My PC is MUCH quieter now, instead of making a noise like Concord taking off (ever been to Heathrow when that happens - it's VERY VERY LOUD!) I can now hear the hard disks ticking etc. (thinks to himself - must do something about that ....) I'm using 10mm Tygon tubing throughout (except for a bit near my GPU block where the walls of the Tygon were so thick they prevented my from using hose clips on the block. I used some thinner walled PVC tubing instead) Olly
