Groupon have the Galaxy S II on offer atm - £19 for the phone with a 24 month £22 contract with 3, 500 minutes, 5000 messages, 1Gb interwebs. I've been looking to get one of these for a while, just been waiting for the right contract. I'm on o2 payg atm and have had no problems with coverage etc so I'd just want to be sure there are no issues with 3 before I go ahead and buy it! I'm in Northern Ireland btw, spose that would make a difference...
I have been with 3 for the last 8 years. They are alright, a whole heap better than they were before. They have (or at least have had) for me very good signal coverage, especially 3g and its always getting better. They have pretty bad customer service though, and have over the years had some funny systems, but I haven't ever had any huge complaints about them.
I've been with them for 18 months now and no complaints from me. Looking forward to getting an upgrade in 6 months, Galaxy S3 will be out then! I don't think I could handle a 1GB allowance though, I take it you don't mind about that? Speeds are great aswell, usually get 3-5 Meg and sometimes even 7 Meg! Never had to deal with customer service though so I can't comment on that.
Yeah I reckon I could chew through 1gb pretty quick, that's just the base contract though, an extra £3 (teehee) a month buys me unlimited, so I'll probably do that. Thank you gents, groupon purchased I can buy teh actual phone tomorrow evening, be a week or so after that til I get it.
what he said as for 3 as a network, coverage is a bit spotty here, but from what i hear they're fine... until you need to speak to someone
yeap their customer service can be [expletive]Sh!t[/expletive] at times, like when you want to cancel a contract to change to a different contract with the same company. wife sent a letter asking to do this, they sent a letter back saying they couldn't cancel the contract, because she hadn't included our address in her letter. but the actual provisioning of the service is excellent.
They were the worst by far but they have improved a hell of a lot but the main thing is Internet unlimited is the key selling point and there 3g network is good. Customer they got to be the worst there is,
They lie outrightly on their coverage maps. I barely get a single bar of signal in an area that has good indoor and outdoor coverage according to them. And trying to cancel because you can't actually get on their 'mobile internet' is even more of a nightmare because none of their staff speak english as a first language. Unless you live in a major city I'd not touch them.
I live in a little north east town and coverage is usually 3-5 bars, at work i usually get 0-1 bar and the 3g speed is very decent for loadinh webpages and facebook. Ive only been with them for around 2 and a half months but having the 3g on all the time, compared too 02s where the 3g signal would drop when you were away to use the internet is alot better. I was with three when they first started and they where woeful to say the least. I could not wait to drop them. I then had my iphone 3gs with them and now my 4s. Have to say i can not fault them at all. Never lose signal and get good speeds when ever i connect to 3g. There customer service can be a bit of a nightmare if you have to contact them but that said isn't that the case with all mobile phone providers.
I think it very much depends where you live. My iphone 4S rarely gets up to full speed on three, usually it tends to hover around 2mbit up/down, which is a bit disappointing, because it severely limits its use for streaming on the go.
It depends where you are, up here in scotland the coverage is useless once you leave the city. At my parents, you need to drive roughly 15 miles in any direction to get a steady signal, kinda pointless.
I've always got great 3G speeds and coverage from them. Very reliable and never had any connectivity drop outs. It does depend on area however, but I'd easily recommend them.
From the year and a half of hassle my wife had with signal, phones crashing, useless customer service who don't speak english very well and don't understand what you're saying, I would personally suggest to anyone that 3 isn't great. We even bought a brand new pay as you go phone and moved the SIM over and still she'd get random "no service" drop-outs, more often that not when calling she'd call people it would fail to connect even though people could ring her and it just wasn't worth the stress and hassle. This is in suburban Bristol FWIW.
Asdfghjjkl. This means it's going to cost me money to call/text you, doesn't it? Selfish old me I think from what I have heard both here and out and about, "3" have definitely soiled their reputation in the past with some customers, but having no actual experience of them myself, I hesitate to comment. The deal you're getting on it is pretty much too good to pass up anyway, so I say go for it and if you have any major hassle with coverage or customer service, just pull the old "carrier in breach of contract" card and switch to a different provider after a few months. Shiney new phone for joo
Around Belfast you'll be fine for fast coverage. Greenisland/J'town should be decent but straying past there might drop a bit. Anywhere in the west and you can expect 3G coverage worse than everyone else. Anywhere past Lisburn and you're usually on Edge. The main problems I've heard from 3 is customer service and they make it very hard to cancel your contract.
I’ve been with them for 2 years, previously with O2. To be honest, Three’s coverage was a bit patchy when I first signed up two years ago. In the months following that, they went on a massive drive to improve this, and its honestly made noticeable difference. I get very good coverage almost everywhere now. I don’t think their internet is quite as fast as say O2 or, from what I hear, Vodafone, but I get unlimited data for a very cheap price, and the speed is generally fine for browsing etc. Ringing customer service isn’t a great experience as they are mostly based in India, but the guys in the shops are very helpful indeed. All in all, considering the amount you save compared to the other networks I’d have no hesitation on recommending Three to you or anyone else.
I work for them and wouldn't hesitate to recomend them ( i've had a contract with them before i worked for them too) As far as customer services go, i have to call them EVERY day at work for customers and never have a problem understanding them (most people that claim to do are close minded and verging on racist) and very helpful. We also have a call centre in Scotland, but personally i find that accent harder
