hi, first post and all.. just after some opinions on 3-way-SLi i'm thinking of building a 3 way sli computer, my monitor runs at 2304 x 1440 and I also use Nvidia 3D vision. I also like to run everything set to max if I can.. I've hear a lot of talk about 3-way not making much difference but how about when running at 2304 x 1440 will 3 cards help at such a high resolution? i'm sure the stereo glasses will also put extra work on the hardware as well. As a side note I also like to run BOINC science work units when the computer is idle. i guess the extra GPU will be useful with that if nothing else!.. lol
Welcome to the forum Tri SLI scales very well from low res monitors to triple monitor setup's like mine. I don't know where you heard that Tri SLI doesn't make that much differences, but all I would say is, don't read from these sources again, as it's given false impression! Cheers, Simon.
In the early days of 3-way fun almost no games were optimised from the ground up for multiple GPU's, let alone 3. The drivers were also hit and miss depending on the game. Now its a much better situation.
As true_gamer has all ready stated, tri SLI kicks ass. However, if you're intending to use it for 3D vision, dual SLI is known to perform better than tri SLI. Look in the driver release notes if you don't believe me!
how about quad SLi? will that work better with 3d vision? Thanks for all the reply's btw. most helpful.
Generally more is always better, although it can vary from agme to game from unnoticeable to almost perfect scaling. I cant imagine you would need 4 GPU's to do what you want to do though. 2 high end cards in SLI or crossfire will work great and be far far easier to cool and power. No need to go nuts, especially when current tech 3-way cards will perform as well as 2-way of the next generation (has been true for a while now) it seems excessive and a waste. Get 2 high end nvidia cards (570 seems ideal, 580 if you really want) and if you are not satisfied you can always buy a 3rd card later (make sure its the same card though, you have potentially way more issues if you mix cards).
Yeah, CRT monitors do rule for the money - well, providing you've got a big/strong enough desk & aren't trying to sit across the room to play games naturally... Personally love the Compaq P1220 (& have 3 of them atm) as they do 2048x1536 @ 80Hhz (not a big fan of w/s monitors), & needed very little tweaking (with my Spyder 3 Elite) to give perfect colour representation.
