I don't think that deal alone caused the spike, also rumours of new PS4 chips and Nintendo console chips were part of it. They are also due to release a new cpu and gpu architectures both of which might make them more competitive in their respective markets again. The share price was so low that if it looks like the company isn't going to go bust this year it goes up...

That said it's not like AMD's outlook has suddenly turned all rosy - it's in a declining market vs strong competition that are also suffering (even Intel's got problems). It still lost money this quarter and it's margins still way too low vs it's competitors. The repeated revenue drops means the company is shrinking meaning less total money for R&D, and it can't be cheap to develop these cpu's and gpu's.

Sony Vr probably had a small influence with that too. i can't imagine nvidia will be making the external gpu needed to power it, and it's likely going to have a pretty high price tag attached. so possible new console chips, almost confirmed external, zen looks really good, and if you picked the one hardware choice that benefits the most from HBM... it's the apus. they have spent their entire life being throttled by the memory, and now they'll have dedicated HBM. not only would that likely bump their performance up, it'd also make it better for crossfire configs.

Will make apu's much more viable as an entry level gaming pc that has room for a future upgrade.

Crossfire is dead and so is SLI in truth. Recent games that are compatible at launch can be listed on one hand.

DX12 was meant to help with it all but instead its put it on the game developers who will not waste the dev time for a niche section of pc gaming.

If you want to play a game with CfX or SLI your basically saying your playing it a year later in alot of recent titles.

Some games will never get support.

Yup multi GPU has had its day. Devs simply aren't taking it into consideration any more. I just looked at AMD's latest driver today. Apparently it's been released to coincide with the new duo card they're releasing and for The Division, Need For Speed and Xcom 2 (the three biggest latest games) it says to disable Crossfire.

Problem is as we have now seen just because a game is DX12 does not mean multi adapter is a given either. So yeah, goodbye multi GPU.

As long as you stay away from silly resolutions the TI and Fury X have more than enough power.
