The heat that these CPUs kick out is insane when house start cranking up the voltages. I can't get past 4.2 with the one I have here. :(

Yup. Depends on the board and CPU but I'd be very surprised to see one stable above 4.4GHz without high-end watercooling.

    Second paragraph several typos:

"As well as the possibility of having 20 threads at your disposal alongside several graphics cards, there's more beeing unveiled today that just a 10-core CPU. If you're been following the rumour mill, then you'll likely have guessed the Core i7-6950X wasn't going to be the only CPU unveailed today.

There maybe more as I have not read the whole article yet.

Right now, that's probably going to be the limit until we get some cherry picked bits coming from Roman at CaseKing.de in the near future.

Is there a likelihood with increased implementation of Vulkan and DX12 that more cores will eventually be utilised in games? This would make the enthusiast chips a better option than the ubiquitous 6700K.

It's possible, and not just because of new PC-related tech but with more cores predicted to be part of next gen consoles too (although we've heard that before). In fact many games take advantage of more than 4 cores today but a lot of this is in multiplayer which is impossible to test in a repeated fashion, or just in certain scenes offline.

    Thanks, Anthony.

I will not be upgrading from a 5930K. These prices, like a certain recent graphics card launch, are slightly ridiculous.

Here's hoping Zen and Polaris/Vega clear up, with the blue and green greed machines on full tilt.

Nah that's still a great CPU plus you already have something that offers the full 40 lane compliment so unless you desperately need more cores or Turbo Boost Max support then there's little point upgrading.

Depends what the equivelent Xeon costs in truth. To how good the value is. You either need 10 cores 20 threads or don't

That's more than my entire rig costs with either a 1070 or 1080 gpu lol. I am not the target for this sort of chip though.

I think I'll leave this one to the peeners - seems largely pointless for home rigs.
